leaf blowing
Some people get good use out of their leaf blowers - gathering the leafs and disposing of them.

Others, not so much. Around the neighborhood, many people hire yard workers to "clean up" their yard. Most of the time, this means just weekly blowing leaves around. The problem is that: 1) they don't collect them, 2) the leaves often are blown somewhat into neighbor's yards.

Like my rear neighbor - his yard working comes weekly all year. He spends his time just blowing leaves around. Some of it ends up in my yard. I don't really mind too much as I just consider it mulch to keep down weeds in that area. Still, it's noisy as fuck every week for 30 minutes. And I don't want them to blow weed seeds into my yard (like dandelion and such).

Not just my neighbor but all around the neighborhood this seems to happen. The leaves get blown around but nothing is picked up from the ground and disposed of. It's just left where it lands to get blown by the wind back around their yard, their neighbor's yard and/or the street.

It's noisy, ineffective and a waste of money in my mind. I just don't get it.

There should be a law - if you blow leaves, you need to pick them up and dispose of them. Especially if they become a nuisance for others.

We would blow and bag our leaves. However, the worst culprit wasn't our neighbor blowing leaves onto our lawn, it was Mother Nature blowing leaves all around - sometimes you win, most times you lose.

I use my 30 year old Honda mower to first mulch the leaves then attach the bagger and vacuum the mulched leaves. in our large natural area, I just run the mower in mulching mode to grind up the leaves.

The rear third of our yard is wooded and since most of the leaves end up in the backyard, my leaf blowing mainly consists of moving them from the grass back to under the trees. Decaying leaves over 30 years have made rich soil in that area and the wife occasionally will dig some up to add to her flower gardens. As noted, windy days are the usual culprit if leaves end up in the neighbors’ yards.

Then you have the ones that blow it into the street & leave it there.

A neighbor down the street does this. His yard will be so covered in leaves, like a foot of them, that you can’t even see grass. I’ve watched him just blow the leaves with a blower, out into the street. Every year, when his monster trees start dropping leaves I have to clean out my skimmers every single day for weeks on end.

People just don’t give a fuck about anyone but themselves these days.

I have posted this exact topic in this forum before. It irks me to no end.

I blow them into a pile for my son and our dogs in a spot where I'm trying to improve the soil. They get a few hours of fun out of it, then I mulch them in place. Win/win.

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Neighbors blow leaves every day around here. I swear they're born with a backpack blower on. I don't touch leaves. I figure nature's been doing a pretty good job of taking care of them for a few million years. Why interrupt.

We have that issue here with lawn crews and some homeowners.

Our streets are private, which means the sewers are ours as well. Last year we had them all scoped and cleaned out to the tune of $25,000.++

We need them clean as we're the lowest point in the development, and we need water to drain quickly. We found all of them had some blockage and some over 25%. We've only had a few people push back on that, most are happy, and we still have to watch what happens with the lawn crews.

This was my strategy living in N. TX. Make sure the grass was kept cut often enough leading into fall for a smooth even surface. Leaves fall, wind blows, leaves GONE!

I read this yesterday and was thinking about the lawn care services that show up to mow, string trim, and blow, Barb's neighbors lawns. It's too loud to sit outside when the trimmers and mowers get run together but once that stops the blowers fire up which is louder still.

Anyway today I was out riding a motorcycle maybe 20 miles from home and after cresting a hill I stopped, just ahead the road was covered in leaves a foot or more deep. LOL the homeowner was using his riding mower to blow leaves across his lawn to the woods only between his lawn and woods was the road. He had gotten all the leaves into the road and was wading through them on his mower trying to move the pile to the woods. I had to laugh as he held up his hand for me to stop until he mowed down the middle of the pile making me a path then motioned me on.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.
