No. I don't want to read news in "pothead letterbox," I prefer landscape view when I read stuff on my phone. Is it because the ads on your webpage don't format correctly when I rotate my device how I want to read it? Tough shit, I'm on your webpage for your news, not the ads, so get your lazy web guy to format stuff instead of making me turn my phone. Full-screen gates that force you to turn your damn phone to idiot mode make me want to just leave their site without reading the content I came to read, but they've already got their ad revenue because I'm on the page and loaded the ads so they don't care. And why is it invariably news sites? This is one getting up there with "one trick doctors don't want you to know" or "32 moments that you won't believe what happens next" and you click through 394 pages of ads to see 30 things (because they also can't count) that are completely believable and uninteresting. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Just from personal experimentation, reading text in portrait mode presents more content than in landscape mode. It does, and it's also smaller, and I don't care to strain my eyes looking at font half the size it is when turned to landscape mode and resent being forced to and having to zoom in on columns of text that are never columns, but varying off-center blurbs because lazy webguy. At least turning landscape mode tends to fix a lot of that shit, at least for me. I guess the really bothersome thing for me is they never give a reason, nor do they give you an option. I mean, there should be an option box where you can click "Go fuck yourself, I want to read it this way." But that button would be too big to fit comfortably on a cellphone screen and would probably be too close to admitting shame for the lazy webguy, who would be too lazy to code it in anyway. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Not the same problem, but similarly annoying: many news sites that I visit via my computer put up a dialog box blocking most of the content, whining about my ad blocker. Using Safari browser, I can get around this for most sites by using the "Reader View." That just shows the straight content, no ads, no click-bait. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Please don't rotate your device! I prefer stuff to be readable in portrait, if I have to flip the phone the other way it's harder to hold and I will likely just not read whatever content it is. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

I also love the "OMG, turn off your ad blocker before you can view our website!". Fuck you, and your ads. I'll go elsewhere. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Yep. sometimes I turn the ad blocker to get to the article but I turn it back on. Sometimes, I just move on. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I disable landscape mode on my phones, and lock them into portrait. Smart web designers make their sites adjust to the viewer's display, rather than trying to have customers adjust to their content. They know that if stuff looks weird when viewed, they just wasted the time, money and effort they spent getting that visitor to their site.

Well yeah but that depends if you have a full-size spare phone. Also what about asymmetric screens? _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I refuse to rotate my phone. It is just a means of seeing how controllable you are. If I can't just hit "back" to get away, I'll turn it off before I rotate it. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018
