V-TailStoopid Capital One Fraud Alert
My Amazon Prime membership was scheduled for its annual renewal today. I received an email from Capital One, stating that the charge was declined. No reason given.
Wasted an hour with Capital One Customer NO-Service, going back and forth re "suspicion of fraudulent charge." I requested, several times, that they check my Capital One account to see the SAME charge on this date one year ago. And the year before that. And so on.
Nope, that makes too much sense, so "no can do."
An hour, with nothing accomplished.
Then, chat session with Amazon Customer Service. Explained what happened, asked them to remove the attempt to use the Capital One card, and use a different card for Prime renewal. "No problem sir, it's taken care of. Anything else we can help you with?" Took about a minute and a half.

frayedendsYou couldn't just tell them it was a valid charge and have them put it through? Every time I've gotten a fraud alert they just wanted confirmation from me that I authorized the charge.

That would be easy and logical, but evidently those concepts are not understood by Capital One. This has been my primary card, but I'm gonna put it in a drawer and use a different card. We'll see if they notice that they're not making any money from me. Probably not.

Butch 2340I had an opposite experience. I saw a charge to Amazon that I didn't make. I called Capital One to report it and they told me it was the renewal charge for AP.
Yes I felt dumb.

GibbNot just Capital One, it happened to me with another card.
I was told that it was the was Amazon submitted the charge that triggers the alert.

k5blazerExact same thing happened with my Capital One card and Amazon Prime. Took a while to get an understanding with the help desk people at Capital One. Removed the card from Amazon. Now I keep getting phishing emails about Amazon Prime declining my card.

shovelheadI’m just trying to find out why suddenly a pending charge was wiped off my online statement. It was there almost a week when it suddenly was gone. I didn’t make a payment, there is no record that it was ever posted nor credited.
I called the shop that issued the charge, a auto repair owned by a friend. He’s going to have this wife check and see if they collected and if the amount was reversed back from them.
A total mystery.

And today, POOF, it magically appeared as a transaction.
