That is a thin argument. Which is why, while I disagree with keeping him out of HOF and MLB stuff, I actually think a rule to ban sports betting while actually being a sportser, is probably a good rule. The punishment didn't fit the crime in the case of Rose. Him being an asshole probably doesn't help him either. lol

Patriots’ Kayshon Boutte arrested for placing underage sports bets
8900 bets. Former LSU player.
Patriots receiver Kayshon Boutte was arrested by Louisiana State Police on Thursday as part of an investigation into illegal sports gaming.

Boutte is accused of placing bets using a fraudulent account while being a 20-year-old senior at LSU, with some of the wagers placed on Tigers games; gambling under the age of 21 is illegal in Louisiana.

The account in believed to be used by Boutte placed 8,900 bets from Apr 6, 2022 to May 7, 2023, with at least 17 placed on NCAA football games, at least six of those on LSU games.

According to WAFB, the wagers and payouts involved “several hundred thousand dollars,” though Boutte, now 21, never bet “against himself.”

“In July 2023, LSU was made aware of allegations regarding a former student-athlete’s improper conduct related to sports gambling while enrolled at the University,” LSU said in a statement. “Since then, we have fully cooperated with all relevant authorities involved in the investigation and will continue to do so. We have no evidence that any other student-athletes participated in these prohibited activities, and we are grateful for measures that detect and discourage sports gambling related misconduct.” link: https://nypost.com/2024/01/25/...for-placing-underage

Seeing athletes promote gambling does feel like a big shift compared to how gambling used to be viewed in sports. I think the normalization of online gambling has changed the game—what used to be a huge taboo is now marketed as mainstream entertainment.

From my perspective, gambling is fine in moderation, but the aggressive advertising can be overwhelming and might encourage risky behavior. I stick to casual play, usually on sites offering free options to keep it low-risk. If you’re interested in exploring without committing money, you can find free spins here. It’s a way to play responsibly without diving too deep into the gambling world.

Gambling has a long history. One of out ten gamblers make money. My Uncle spoke to his bookie when I was growing up. He was more interested in the outcome than I was.
Illegal gambling has a long history. Estes Kefauver shut it down in the early 50. It was legalized in 1992 and it was off to the races. We are the second largest market in the US.
The casinos figure out where to spend their advertising dollar and if you do not gamble you will not get ciculars or calls.
