Pocket fuzz vs the lockback knife
When a ball of fuzz prevents the blade from locking. Aarrrgghhh!

Question would be why an everday carry lockblade was not cleaned and maintained like an everyday carry firearm to prevent such happenings.

Yes, carry knives should be kept cleaned and maintained, but it can happen with a clean knife. Just takes the appropriate "I didn't know that was in there" chunk of pocket lint after a laundry cycle to find it's way into the works.

Cleaning the knife is important, but I have found that a slight change to how I wash my pants allows my pocket knife to stay relatively lint free.

The change I made was to pull out the pocket liners before both washing and drying (if in a dryer). By making sure the liners are pulled out a much as possible and the corners and points are showing ensures the cleanest result as that's where most of the lint seems to collect.

To some it may sound like OC behavior but it takes only a little time and it really does make a difference.

D'oh! Why didn't I think of that? I will do that, going forward.

Here's the conundrum-
Yes, now the knife is clean and lubricated. But the oil will hold the lint & gunk.

So you clean it with oil again and the circle continues.

I've cleaned them with rubbing alcohol and tried dry lube- meh. Nothing special. The alcohol does get it clean, but the dry lube...

Oil, especially thinner oil (kroil, wd-40) seem to work best, but it attracts and holds more lint and gunk.

Many people prefer pocket carry . My Dad carried a pocket knife until the day he died . Never owned one with a clip .
