As I have said before, I currently work as a gun store clerk. One of my recent experiences really pissed me off.

A co-worker was showing a customer a Beretta Tomcat. The customer took the gun, and promptly released the barrel latch. He then forced the barrel 180 degrees forward, breaking the barrel spring, which fell to the floor. He then began striking the barrel near the sight with his palm, forcefully, to close the barrel. I snatched the weapon from his hand. The owner, who was present, told the customer it was okay. The kicker-this moron began to claim he had not broken the gun, that he had used proper field strip technique. I showed him YouTube video show how to properly field strip the gun, and his reply was, "The one he gave me was an older model." At that point I guess I showed some pretty obvious signs of anger (but I didn't say anything) the the manager pulled me to the back, and made me sit and drink a coke. Really, this asshat should have thanked the owner and stepped quickly out the door. Okay, rant off. I deal with idiots every day (including the guy who wanted a powerful handgun because he hunted Bigfoot), but this one really pissed me off.

I didn’t do it. Classic.

Woman brings 5 year old sugared up boy into the guitar store I worked at. I start shadowing the kid because I’m psychic. Next thing you know, kid pushes a Fender guitar hanging from a String Swing guitar hanger, the guitar starts to fall, and I catch the guitar just before it hits the floor.

Mom says, “That guitar wasn’t hung very well.”

I respond, “I hung it there last week and is hadn’t moved once until your son shoved it.”

She gathered her child and left in a huff. I told the owners what happened and they were ok with my reaction.

I've never harmed anyone in my life. Said it in jest.
But I still could never work retail.

I used to work at the dicks who are Dicks. Here is my favorite customer interaction:
I saw a kid about 10 years old wandering around the hunting / fishing area by himself and eventually he made it to the counter.
Me: How are you doing?
Kid: You dont care!
Best customer relations answer in my sales career.

Definite sounds more like an owner problem. Customers are always problems, but it’s up to the local authority to handle it appropriately.

I always ask for permission to do anything to a weapon at a counter besides handling it. The customer was a douche and a child, it the owner should have treated him accordingly. You break it you buy it.

I have, multiple times.

There are times that there's no other way to solve the problem.

May I suggest keeping your emotions out of the work place? You're being paid to do your job with due diligence. If you've done your due diligence and did your best, then it's not on you.

Consider the manager's reaction. He pulled you to the back and made you sit and drink a coke. Do you think he saw your reaction in a positive way? Do you think it made him think, "Fredward is a great employee; I can trust him to do the right thing in any situation even when I'm not around."

I may be mistaking you for someone else but don't you have an MBA and having a hard time finding an appropriate position? Maybe your reaction was also partly fueled by frustration knowing you're capable of doing a lot more than what you're doing now. I can certainly understand and relate to that kind of feeling.

I'm not trying to make you feel bad; I'm just trying to get you to focus your energy on the right thing. You have two choices while waiting for the right job: you can be optimistic you will get it because you have confidence in your abilities or you can have a bad attitude because of the randomness of life. Either way, you'll still spend the same amount of time to get to the right job and having a bad attitude isn't going to make the time go faster.

Good luck.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Almost 30 years dealing with customers face to face. 6 years of now only dealing with them on the phone, just over 10 years to go. Much easier to hang up on idiots end the conversation than throwing their asses out of the store.

I could not work in retail sales. I would get fired after telling an idiot to get the fuck out of the store.

Yes, you are mistaking Fredward for somebody else. The MBA guy is a different person.

43 yrs retail, 35 in the Grocery biz, let the Gro Biz as a Store Manager ,

spent a good amount of time managing a store in the hood,

so imagine middle aged white dude from the burbs, and what the hood rats (off all colors) would say,, and some try to do,

my favorite was when I was escorting a now former employee to the time clock, who we had let go for theft, and was of color , tell me I was a Blue Eyed White Devil, since I would not let him go back to work,, he promised to not do it again,

nope, hit the clock and be glad HR would not let me call the law,,

another good time(s) is when the idjits come in to pick up a script, 10 days early, for some pain killer, that they either took too much off or sold part of it,

get mouthy with a RX, and she calls me, who by then (me) is about tired of some mouthy dumbass,

I gave all of them the same choice,
>stfu and sit down, while the RX asks your doc if they can fill the script early (rarely happens)
> stfu and leave , now, if you don't mind, with out your refill,

> or, stfu while I call the law and have them take you away, and yes, I will make sure you are restrained till they get here,

I'll admit, that type of environment is not good for your mental health,

meanwhile, as a gunshop owner (2 locations) and a gunshow vendor, I still get a chuckle over the experts that come by and want to teach everyone in speaking distance how smart they are,,
