They have their priorities in order, they do well enough to sponsor/support an entire NASCAR division Big Grin.

Spectrum isn’t much better. UBER pissed off with them right now. They’re ALL parasites; a necessary evil unless you decide to live off the grid.

Seems like a clickbait thread. I've heard para doesn't like them.

Day 43 and 21 hours of my time invested. Second tech being sent today between 10am-noon.

On the plus side, if you tell the phone tree you want to “cancel service”, then you get a live person to talk to you and transfer you to another live person who scheduled a tech to come out the next day instead of a week out.

This is just at my dad’s house. He had a new heart valve put in yesterday, should be home today, and I just want the damn TV to work for him. The signal going into the house has been bad this entire time. I know it’s bad because the readings on the cable modem say so as well as the signal strength meter on the main X1 STB. Even the secret diagnostics screens on the main X1 box agree when they say the tuners can’t find a signal.

A week and a half ago, they finally sent a tech out, he replaced some connectors on the pole, and everything worked. Signals were great and the TV worked. Not this past weekend though. Signals are crap again. I’m going to guess the connections that were replaced were not done well.

Then, I have to deal with the ongoing, time wasting, issues with them at my house. My wife is even onboard with kicking them to the curb this time.

Do you have any alterative providers you could switch to like fiber?

We finally got fiber here via Windstream and it's been awesome. My FIL just ditched Comcast too and is going to to exactly what we did over a year ago; 500 Mbs fiber internet and YouTube TV.

If you can find an alternative, do it. Comcast is too big a monopoly and just doesn't care.

I used to have to reboot my Comcast cable modem weekly, sometimes daily it was getting so bad and never got the promised speeds. With Windstream I've rebooted maybe twice in a year and get the advertised speed and sometimes even more.

Thankyou for finally making the content of this thread clear 10 days later. Eek

But PASig is right, sometimes you just have to go elsewhere.
Cable can be finicky if you are at the end of the line.
It could be upstream issues as well that are are not specific to Comcast but something they must sort out.
If you are sure you have eliminated everything local aka your equipment/connections including testing alternate configurations (like trying different TV, HDMI cables, etc) then consider a different provider.

My dad’s cable modem and their set top boxes have diagnostics that show what is with the signals upstream and downstream. It’s both the TV and internet, so it’s not my dad’s HDMI cables, TVs, whatever. She replaced 30’ of cable at the pole and is still working on it.

So far, I’m batting 1000 knowing when it’s Comcast’s problem. I think this is the 11th time in 22 years. Things like the TV and internet goes out when it rains are a clue that it isn’t something inside my house that’s causing the issue. Also, plugging the cable modem directly into the incoming cable feed also eliminates everything inside the house.

There’s no good alternative for my dad.

I had a thread a few years back detailing an issue with their X1 boxes that wouldn’t work the way they were supposed to and fell back into streaming content through my internet instead. That blew right through my 1.3 terabyte data cap. After two hours of the tech and the guy on speaker phone not fixing it, I suggested a work around that while not fixing the fact the boxes weren’t communicating with each other like they were supposed to, it at least got 4k on my 4k TV and eliminated the boxes using my internet. I came up with the work around in the first hour, but wanted to see if they could actually solve the issue. After the second jour, I got bored and made the suggestion.

My favorite personal Comcast nightmare is when one of my neighbors was delinquent on their account and the Comcast tech accidentally disconnected MY service. Unfortunately I was out of the country for a month on a work trip which left my wife to deal with it...and her name wasn't on the account. That one took multiple phone calls and several days to remedy.

Good point. Now I'm thinking about changing the name on accounts that are potential problems. Thinking about just using my first initial and last name. My wife's first name starts with the letter 'L' -- same as mine.

I do my dad’s taxes and have his SS# and birth date memorized. Surprisingly, or maybe not, sounding like a grumpy 84 year old is not difficult for me. Big Grin

Once again, his cable is working. The Xfinity woman said the previous guy didn’t go far enough up the pole when he was out almost two weeks ago. Further up, she found coax that had been chewed upon buy rodents and some sort of box that was also chewed through allowing water in.
