Drill Sgt’s thread about the commercialization of Memorial Day is just sickening. We all know it’s every year. Used to be a mattress sale, appliances, now it’s fucking everything. I’m not spending a nickel on any sale bullshit all weekend. But for me this is any holiday commercialization. Christmas bugs me the most. Celebrate Christ, remember him, think about him, pray. The “spirit” should be getting some people to actually attend Church and turn your attention to God, his son, etc. A fatman, reindeer, stockings, wrapping paper, buying consumer products and overeating have nothing, whatsoever to do with it. So if you don’t believe in God, just skip it all. Most of the people I know who make a fucking Mt. Everest out of this holiday either don’t even believe in God, don’t practice it, don’t attend church, etc. It’s baffling. If I didn’t believe, I wouldn’t mess with any of it. I pray before every meal, thank God for every day I have, for every meal, for every check, basically for everything, and always tell him it’ll all be donated in his name when I pass. None of it is mine per say. You’ll never see a hearse towing a U-haul trailer. But this Memorial Day, well I use to go visit my Grandfather every Memorial Day and Veterans Day. He did not fall while serving. He was a P51 mechanic for the AAF in Iwo Jima. But I used to go visit his grave on these two days to pay my respects because he served. I know the difference between the holidays but Bill was an American to the core. He went to work for Bell helicopter immediately after he served. He was the thermos and lunch pale guy in my life as the father was never around. An honorable man who had anger issues but at the end of the day was a good man, a patriarch to our fucked up family. These days the traffic is so bad, people going got damn ballistic over a single extra day off, it’s unbearable to drive to Grand Prairie TX now. I could make the drive in 30 minutes, now it’s 1.5 hours so I just go non-holiday. But this is every holiday if you think about it. Labor Day “sales”. The roads are jammed, people acting like ass holes, cutting you off, lines, just mindless bullshit. How about stay home and rest with that day off. Then it’s Halloween and a bunch of Satan bullshit. More sales, candy, costumes, and excuses for many women to dress up like whores. Then it’s on to Thanksgiving. As someone who respects the Native tribes, but who has zero guilt, it’d be nice if it was more about them, them living off the land, only killing what they needed to eat, to survive. Instead it’s buy a shit load of food, overeat, twice. Then it’s Christmas, covered that already. Then it’s Valentine’s Day, so buy some candy, flowers, oh and buy some blood diamonds, then wait in an excruciating lines to get a meal, all the while you could go the day before or after and not deal with shit. And if you just have to buy flowers that will die in a week, at least buy them the day after where you’ll pay a fraction of the price. Next, March Madness, so order your pizza, but that lite piss beer swill, get some ‘wangs. Then it’s Memorial Day, playoffs, playoffs? Playoffs? Then it’s July 4th, more food, booze, someone blowing their finger off or someone setting someone else’s house or car on fire. People getting killed at the lake, usually alcohol induced, or a drowning, also alcohol induced. Then back to Labor Day, every year rinse and repeat. Has anyone ever stopped and thought, perhaps I’m alone here, that’s this is all utter and complete bullshit? Throw in Grandma Day, Mother Day, Father’s Day, trans day, or whatever else there is now. You shouldn’t need a hallmark day to honor a loved one or someone who has served this nation. If that was real, instead of marketing, we’d have National LE, Paramedic, and ER doctor day. People who actually save lives for real, not just on TV, and everyone would be off. But corporations would turn that into some bullshit sales and a three ring circus like everything else. Sometimes you have to think for yourself and see the forest for the trees. Or maybe it’s just me dude. Because I live in DFW where millions and millions of people have recently infiltrated, but any “holiday” I’m buying groceries and supplies many days early so I can just all of it completely out. Don’t want to deal with the drunks, all the traffic, lines, etc, because it’s easier to cut that stress and bullshit out and just stay home and away from all of it. I see all these marketed holidays as the Matrix where the machines are just trying to pull the wool over my eyes. Well you aren’t getting my money. Happy Holidays everyone! Heard one person say it today, and read it twice online... "Have a happy memorial day." No. Idiot. | |||
