Gov efficiency at its finest!

I was dispatched to mail a Christmas present to wife's relatives in NC and went to the large PO in the town near us since I was out running errands there anyway.

It's 11:30 am on Saturday, December 14th...as in 11 days before Christmas, right? The USPS management have realized this and are fully manned up with lots of counter people standing ready with a cheerful attitude, right?

Oh no, of course not. There are 11 people in line in front of me with ONE counter lady in no particular hurry whatsoever. These people literally DO NOT GIVE A FUCK.

In the 20 minutes I'm in line, the line gets another 25 people behind me and you can hear the people starting to murmur, the WTF's, a few people just walk out. Two people hiding in the back FINALLY come out and open up and get the line moving and I finally get through.

I almost wanted to loudly say as I walked out "And don't forget people, the government wants to run your healthcare the same way as this!!" but I bit my tongue.

The older one gets, the more likely that “filters” will no longer work when pissed off.

Click N Ship,

They purposely don't have as many window clerks anymore because of this.
It has nothing to do with "it's the government" if it WAS "the government" they'd have 5 clerks at the front at all times, even when there wasn't anyone in line.

We use Click N Ship exclusively, but also schedule a Carrier pickup (no charge). We have a table outside our garage door where all delivered packages are left, by all carriers. We just schedule the pickup and leave the package there. Carrier scans it in right there as she puts it on her truck. I haven't been in a Post Office in years, with the only exception being to purchase a MO.

Be happy. In our little slice of heaven you'd have been SOL. The office closes @ 11:30 and they will shut the door in ur face. Next town north closes the desk @ 10. Christmas or not. Joys of rural America.

Not to sidetrack the thread, but the two post office in vicinity of where I work close between noon and 1:00 p.m. WTF? Don't they realize this is when people typically have their lunch hour and can drop by to ship items? Head scratcher for sure.

It’s the philosophy of “do more, with less”. Offices are intentionally short staffed on purpose, in the hopes other employees will pick up the slack. It is physically impossible.

Parcel volumes are through the roof, Amazon can not keep up with the demand, so they pass it off to USPS. Fed Ex pretty much told Amazon they can figure out things on their own. So the PO doesn’t bring in any extra help, and expects clerks to not only distribute parcels, but man the windows as well. It doesn’t work that way. You can’t expect 3 people to do the work or six, and make people happy.

Click and ship is a good option. If you schedule a pickup, and the carrier doesn’t scan the pick up “accepted”, then the bigwigs and beancounters with the clipboards and ties will be calling local management and asking how they failed the “magic” numbers.

Every job in the Post Office revolves around “hitting scans and clock rings”. When things don’t get scanned, or clock rings aren’t made, the beancounters start harrassing mid-level management.

I mailed Christmas Cards today. One of our dear friends asked me to buy her some stamps.
At the post office the line was out the door. Couldn’t even see how many clerks were work. However, inconceivable, was a clerk at a door. He was taking postage paid back ages and mail. When I handed him my cards he offered to check for stamps and to weigh them! Sadly he didn’t have stamps. (I went to Walmart). Unbelievable, a friendly, helpful post office employee.

Yep. I had a package to ship recently. I went to the PO just before 3pm on a weekday. I figured it would be a good time (avoid the weekend at all costs, and miss the folks who came during their lunch hour).

Nevertheless, there was still a line out the door. The good news was there were 3 people working the counter. That is until it turned 3pm.

It didn't matter that there was a long line. At 3pm, one of the counter clerks was told by one of the other clerks to close up. To her credit, she looked at the line and kept taking care of customers.

A few minutes later, he told her again but she kept working. Then, a few minutes after that, a manager type comes out from the back, glances at the line of customers, and tells the woman to finish the next customer and then close up. Mad

When I worked at Lowes, there would be a line of people to see me and you couldn't just walk off. Some days I didn't make it to lunch but the people were nice and some of the women that I helped save money by doing the job themselves gave me a hub...Bear Hug. Big Grin I thought damn, i don't know you personally what the hell?

The good side was that I lost weight from all the walking around and got back to my high school weight.

I like the people that work in our post office. A few days ago my wife asked me to take a return to the post office for mailing; then she added, “Be sure to get a receipt.” The job just got harder.

I’m standing in line and there’s a woman from the P.O. out in the lobby. She sees the grey plastic mailing bag and asks, “Is that a return?”
Yes, I reply.
“Does it have a return label on it?”
It does, I reply.
“You can just give it to me,” she says.
I have to get a receipt for it, is my response.
“See that young lady in the red vest there?” she says, pointing off to my right. “She can scan that label and send it to a printer for a receipt.”
Da hell you say.
I walk over to her, say “I’m told you can get me a receipt for this.”
She scans it with a calculator sized device. Points to a small printer on the end of the lobby island where the first lady is standing. The receipt rolls out. She hands it to me, says, “Merry Christmas,” and I’m on my way with a big smile on my face.

Kind of a side note, the postage must be going up -- I've seen the same rediculous USPS commercial on the tube with a Christmas theme -- they'll have to pay for it.
