Ok, the older I get, the more I find I am turning into that grumpy old bastard, especially when driving.

However, if I see a Dog in your car, I will always cut you some slack.

I appreciate that you may not be accelerating as quickly or taking a turn rather slowly.

A Dogs head sticking out of a window simply makes me smile, and less of an asshole. Smile

Do you treat Drivers who have a Dog in their car differently?

Sooo, you 'can' be less of an asshole...But it depends. Razz

Me, I don't treat anyone differently on the road, I'm simply intolerant of any & all incompetent drivers, especially those that are seemingly oblivious to those around them...Period Wink

If I see two dog's heads sticking out the driver window, while car is in motion, I judge driver to be an incompetent moron

If the dog is being transported in a responsible manner, it does make this frequent misanthrope and grouch smile, but ultimately I treat the driver the same as any other driver. If it is not, I do treat the driver differently, i.e., with scorn and derision.

Dogs should not be in the driver's seat, in the driver's lap. Unless of course they are driving. Big Grin

A large breed has to stand on the driver's balls to look out of the window. It is the driver who needs to be looking out of the window.

Cute, but also not cool:

Put it in a safety harness that lets it move around some and still enjoy the ride, but not thrown out in a crash or even jump out. And not leashed by the neck either.

My old lab mix liked to ride in the "wayback" of the SUV. He was like a periscope, man -- when we'd stop, his head would rise over the top of the back seat and he'd look around. When we started moving again, I'd watch him slowly disappear again, chilling out back there 'til the next stop. Smile

It does usually make me smile to see a dog in a car, except if it is in the driver's lap. I don't treat drivers differently who are a bit slower just because they have a dog, because most of the time I am patient and not in a rush myself. What usually annoys me are aggressive drivers who make unexpected and stupid moves or who block others from merging or changing lanes. California transplants who have transformed the friendly culture.

I do miss those. Why did they go away? Manufacturing cost? Easy entry for thieves?

Agreed. Seeing a dog sticking his head out a passenger window makes me smile, but driving with an animal standing on your lap is dangerous and irresponsible.

Whenever I see a dog riding in a vehicle I judge the driver to be a good person.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Long time ago, I stopped at a motel, went in, asked the clerk if they allowed dogs, and she said no. Boris stuck his head out the window, she sat him from behind the counter inside the lobby a 100’ feet away, asked if he was my dog, I said he is, and she OK. I was glad people treat people with dogs in the car differently. Still don’t understand why she changed her mind. Most people would cross the street to avoid Boris.

No. You don’t get a break because you have your doggy in the vehicle with you. You need to pay attention to the road, and the rules of the road.

And I’ve trained k9’s for many years. Dogs go in a crate, in a vehicle. We’ve had many cases where we learn of a dog we have trained. Dumbass driver got in a wreck, k9 was ejected through a window and killed. My k9’s always in a crate, and the crate is secured with bungee cords. Sticking their head out of a window is not a thing. Do K9 officers let their k9’s roam? Nah. K9 is secure.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I used to know a man with an International Harvester truck with right hand drive. He also had a large black lab that rode in the left seat. He got a lot of attention from other drivers.

My dog rides in his crate in the back of the car. That's been the rule for all of my dogs over the years except for McDuff the Lab/Terrier mix. he was so freaking smart he'd get a pet when we got in the car but as soon as the engine started he would get in the back seat and stay there for the entire ride. Even when I stopped at a MacDonalds for a carry out.

I've stopped counting.

Bout thirty years ago I was traveling south on 75 north of Dallas. Saw something that made me do a double take. There was a pickup traveling north on 75 with a cattle dog on the roof leaning into the wind. Obviously, being on the highway the guy had to traveling 70...probably more.
