Bought a pellet stove last Fall.

First thing that needs to happen is to "burn it in" to cure the paint and cook the inside free of whatever. That involves some odors.

Mrs. PHPaul would NOT let me do it as she didn't want to be in the house during the process and wasn't willing to go away long enough for me to do it. Stove sat from last Fall until today without ever even having been turned on.

Today is A) nice enough for her to go for a walk on her own and B) cool enough to open the windows wide, set up a fan for a little forced ventilation and light that puppy.

After dicking around getting the smart phone app to run it, figuring out how to start it (instructions were, shall we say, minimal) and watching it go through the ignite, feed and go to full burn process, it is now cooking in. Ambient temp in the room is 75° and I set the stove to 81° to give it plenty of time to cook.

Next step is to convince her to let me keep it in automatic mode overnight. At least as safe as the wood stove ever was, but may take some convincing.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

It’s been 20 years or so since I had a pellet stove, and I miss it. The heat from that thing was awesome — I could let it idle through the day, then turn it up when I got home and raise the house temperature 10 degrees in under an hour.

Anyway, Paul, yours is way newer, so things may be different now. But please DO follow the cleaning guidelines. Mine required periodic removal of the panels behind the fire pan and a cleanout of the ashes and dust that would settle back there. Please don’t ignore doing that.

About 15 years after we sold that house, I got word that it had burned. Blame fell on the pellet stove, suspecting a lack of recommended cleaning. I’d hate for anyone else to suffer that tragedy.

Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around.
