dynoratWhy can't I buy a decent potato any more?
Light makes them sprout. Keep them cool, and in the dark and they should keep longer without sprouting. Dad used to buy burlap sacks with about 80 pounds from the farmer down the road, kept them in the garage, brought in a weeks worth at a time.
Maybe try purple/blue potatoes. Started growing them a few years ago, and the bugs don't seem to bother them much.

patwI have been getting potatoes at my local Sam's Club and have been pretty impressed so far. I usually get the 15 pound bag and they seem to last a good week or more before any spoilage occurs.

P210When I was a child in a dark corner of the cellar was a wood box about the size of a small footlocker. It was on legs, the bottom was wire mesh and it was for storing potatoes. They seemed to keep for a long time in it as I recall.
