WARNING!!! If you do business with DoorDash, be SURE you read the fine print and do NOT get a "DashPass" unless you wish to be charged $9.99 a month from then on!!! If you do and later choose to cancel it, GOOD LUCK! Despite having cancelled my account months and months ago, I've been repeatedly charged every month since then and have had to dispute the charges. Attempts to contact the company and get if fixed proved fruitless. It has been an absolute nightmare and I finally had to get my bank involved in calling them directly to fix it. DD even told me and the CapitalOne rep today that my account had already been deleted and that there was no record of any charges, even though the CO rep and I were both sitting there looking at a new pending charge from them! Time will tell if this actually works. Needless to say I will NEVER do business with DoorDash again... EVER! It just isn't worth the hassle!!! _____________________________ Bill R. North Alabama

Sorry they are trying to rob you like that No DD or Uber eats EVER for us. I tell my college aged daughter often that DD and UE are for rich folk

Bill -- You indicated that this was a Capital One card. Look at Capital One's "Virtual Cards." You can generate a unique card for a specific vendor. You can lock (freeze) or unlock that virtual card at any time, or you can delete the virtual card at any time. You get a lot of flexibility and control (at no cost), which would definitely solve this type of problem. I use a distinct Capital One Virtual Card for each merchant that I pay online. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Yeah, I let my daughter use my card when she was out of work and I was visiting for a few days. I had a bad headache that night so she made the delivery order. I personally will not do food deliveries unless they have their own delivery driver, then I keep it to a minimum; never DoorDash, UberEats, etc.
I didn't know about those at that time (late last year), but I do now and will be sure to use that method from now on! _____________________________ Bill R. North Alabama

A lot of these companies have subscriptions that only take a moment to sign up for but it becomes WW 3 if you try and cancel. No phone number to call, if there is a number you have to fight with a customer service rep, stay on hold forever, or send an email that never gets answered. One reason I don't have any subscriptions other than my cell phone and internet provider.

Thanks for the heads up. There is a lot of this going on. Be sure to send them a nice letter or email and there is always the internet.

When these types of things happen it is a good idea to file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office as well. That can tend to get the offending company's attention when enough people complain to have the Government breathing down their neck.

There was an article maybe a couple of years ago about some delivery driver for one of those companies mentioned here, I think, that was eating some of the fries on the way to deliver a meal. We now only get delivery if the place has its own delivery drivers (and its pizza). Bob

Not sure if they're all like that but the Chick-fil-A by our old house had their own delivery drivers who worked for CFA and delivered in CFA marked vehicles. _____________

Caught in a loop |
They are not. CFA contracts through DoorDash in my area if you order through their app. It's just as hideously expensive with the absurd delivery fees, but it does take Bill's issues out of the equation. "In order to understand recursion, you must first learn the principle of recursion."

Does it seem like the more people that get involved in what used to be a simple transaction, The higher the probability that shit will go sideways for at least one of the players ? Cannot say how it used to be, but current deliveries via contract drivers that I personally have seen have the bag sealed such that it cannot be resealed after being opened. Admittedly, I've only seen a few DD orders that my daughter made in the past (not including the 2 that I paid for), but ALL of those could not be opened without tearing the seal or the bag itself. I'm not defending bad drivers, but I am stating that at least the restaurants are now taking measures to prevent that from happening!
Absolutely, no doubt about it! It seems that NOTHING is just "simple" anymore!!! _____________________________ Bill R. North Alabama

is circumspective |
Almost no one has their own delivery drivers around here anymore. It's really fouled me up for getting anything delivered. At first I just opted out of outfits who didn't, now I can't even find two who do their own. "We're all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house. Birth 'til death. They are NOT robbing you. You did not understand what the monthly program is meant for. You pay the monthly fee, but do not pay additional delivery fees on individual orders. Basically, if you use the service twice each month it more than pays for itself. Endowment Life Member, NRA • Member of FPC, GOA, 2AF & Arizona Citizens Defense League

My son delivered while in college, from a handful of restaurants. He’s alway been great at navigation. Some would order a Starbucks or similar item, $10-12 or more. Of course if it was me, I’d make the at home drink & save the $10.
