Autoenrolling Credit Cards
I'm sick of data breaches so I never opt to have a credit card stored on a vendor's website. I know somebody could crack their past payments system, but I'd rather not have up to date credit card info sitting on dozens and dozens of websites. Also, I don't want dozens and dozens of e-mails telling me when my credit card expires.

Today, I went to urgent care, and paid my copay via credit card. Later, I opened my e-mail and found an email titled "AutoPay Enrollment Confirmation" with the message thanking me for setting up AutoPay. There was nothing on the screen requesting my permission and the lady at the desk never requested my permission either.

Autoenrolling my credit card without permission was bad enough, but the assholes don't even have the option on their website to remove it which means I have to waste time on the phone.

Went to the Vet to pickup some medicine for one of the Cats.

Hand them my CC to pay for it and she says "We need to have a CC on file, new policy".

She says too many no shows for appointments, this way they can charge the no shows, I suppose.

The place seems to have a large turnover of staff and their software seems iffy. Didn't have me down for our last appointment even though I got a confirmation e-mail.

Why would anyone set up autopay for Urgent Care?

I locked up my credit at all the credit agencies. Credit Card # storage, meh. I don’t care. Anything sus or incorrect happens it’s a phone call to my card company and they do what I say. Data breach and fraudulent charges, they remove them, cut up the card, new card with new #, done. I am pretty picky on where I use my debit card, but even that, I transfer the $ over to savings and ixnay overdraft anything in case anything happens. I’ll take the overdraft charges and general fuckery I’ll have to deal with in that event over having my cash taken and having to wait for an investigation to get it back. Credit cards, the majors at least, one call, and they unleash hell, so it’s of little concern.

I do understand not signing up for auto payments for something and they choose to do it anyway, as that is bullshit. Best thing you can do for yourself is lock your FICO up. I had to unlock mine in October for the first time in years for an auto loan. The finance dude was questioning me about it. As in can you even afford this, etc. I just laughed at him and said if you don’t want the business I’ll handle it through my credit union. I then asked which credit agency they use and he didn’t like that either but he damn sure understood what I was doing post sale when I wrote a very large check for part of the vehicle and financed the other 50% with my credit union. It’s getting more common for people to lock their credit up.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I have a credit freeze and keep those CC numbers on my PC but without the three digit code.
That way I just enter the code when I use one and don't have to manually enter all the rest for every purchase.

The only ones I have online are the major's like Amazon where they have to have decent security and the budget to pay for the good stuff. I also enter the three digits there too so there's still some level of security.

Since they started using the chip cards, I haven't had any issues online or in person for about a decade.

Find a new vet. This is not the proper way to handle no shows. You simply advise the pet's owner that they must pay for the no show before another appointment was offered.

Call your card company and request a new card and new number. If this is going to be an ongoing concern, get a prepaid visa and give them that number
