So I ordered a repair part online and the website promised a delivery date. I ordered it with that in mind and planned my schedule around that arrival date. Guess what? Not here on that date. Have they ever heard the phrase "Over promise and under deliver"?

Shit happens but good communication can help mitigate the situation.

If every body did their job in a perfect world it should arrive as promised ...... But since we do not live there they can use the excuse the excuse that things happen that they cannot control so your item did not arrive as promised. .................... drill sgt.

I did finally get it yesterday and installation was a breeze.

In this case, I blame the retailer based upon the tracking. FedEx did their job, but the retailer tendered the item to FedEx late.

Amazon prime is getting to be bad about this. 2 day has turned into whenever we can.
Brownells too. I have a package saying Saturday delivery that I doubt will arrive by Monday from past experience. But I know this is how it is now and account accordingly for my needs and schedule.
Still sucks, but not worth adding pts to my bp over.

A Perpetual Disappointment...

Sellers who actually make promise of the delivery date are really stupid. Even if they tender the item to the shipper in time, they have no control over the delivery time, once it's out of their hand. Many things can go wrong in transit that delay delivery.

My pet peeve is when they take out a shipping number so you get an email but the item then takes another 2 to 3 days to actually ship!

OMG, the horror of it all.
Amazing how we have changed over the years.
Maybe someday we can get those StarTrek energizers to transport merchandise. Eek

Not so much horror but the problems it creates for businesses or individuals that need something delivered by a specific date, and based on a companies promises place that order with them, only to find they don't deliver in the time they advertise/promise.

That order would have gone elsewhere to someone that can deliver on time, perhaps at an even more expensive cost, because time is money...

No question that business purchase need different scrutiny.
Relying on online sources that serve retail could be a problem.
You need to either have a direct relationship with a distributor and have the ability to talk to someone in person that can give real up-to-date information.
How did you thing we bought for business before the Internet and the anonymity of suppliers?
When you buy in that capacity - it is your responsibility to mitigate as much as possible.

There's really no excuse for this. It has happened to me more than once. I slammed a seller on Amazon for this and got several emails offering incentives to remove or revise my review.

Even for home delivery deadlines can be important, trips, parts for vehicles to go to work, all kinds of things.

We used to talk with suppliers, who would go out to shipping and make sure the label was done and the package on the truck.

Today, you click on an item, it says its in stock, and will ship two days, they just don't tell you it takes two days to process the order to get it to shipping, so 5 days to you.

It's basically a lie to get you to buy it from them....

There isn't anyone who you can ask in a timely matter or at all, companies make it difficult to find phone numbers, emails etc.
