I think it was taught originally as a way of building rapport with the questioner.

But once it comes to be used by rote, it looses all its meaning and eventually becomes annoying.

Just as the first time someone said "Have a nice day" it might have seemed like genuine good wishes. Now the phrase is a meaningless part of the formula.




The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.
