Let me say in advance…

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I should tell her ‘no’ and blah, blah, blah. But I do love her, she asks for very little, and is pretty freeking amazing to me”.

That out of the way…

F’ING DAMNIT! It was announced today via an unnecessary amount of hype, that BillY Joel and Stevie Nicks are doing a concert here in November.

Girlfriend of 4+ years called today and wants to go…pretty much says we ARE going, no if/ands/or/buts… we are going.

F me running I don’t want to go to this show…maybe Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks of 1993, but not 2023; not to mention the venue is known to be a garbled mess for concerts unless you are on the main floor…which is where I’m sure we will end up.

I cannot even begin to imagine what Ticket Master and their dynamic pricing bullshit, along with their fees is going to cost me. I bet at least $500/ticket.

F’ing damnit I don’t want to go to this stupid show…but unless one of the quits showbiz in the next few months, I’m going.

Thank you for listening to my rant.

Yep, they've been touting it here all day on the local channel. 30 years ago maybe, but not now.

Heard it all over XM today.

Billy Joel? IMO he should have retired after The Stranger, which was a great album. Nothing but bubble gum crap after that. Uptown Girl? Really?

Stevie Nicks? I'd give my left nut to see Fleetwood Mac back in the day. Her alone? No thanks.

I'm with you Ronin.

It has been worth the money to strike first. I buy my wife tickets as a gift for her and her girlfriends.

I look good and stay home.

$1380 each.
Those would be pretty sweet seats.

Almost sold out for the November concert. Less than 2% of seats available.

You are saying that you will pay for your girlfriend and yourself to go to a concert that you aren’t interested in? That’s not looking good for long term relationship. My answer would be, “Doesn’t interest me but have fun. “

These go to eleven.

I saw Stevie's solo act back in the 80's. It was her recorded show at Red Rocks. Good show. Back in the late 90's I paid 75 bucks to see Rush. And, that was my last large venue act. Getting too expensive when you can just buy a DVD.

Now exploring some of the smaller acts I've found some really good musicians for a lot less money.

Give and take if you are going to have any kind of relationship. Be generous and go.

Let me translate- My amazing girlfriend of 4 years wishes me to accompany her and look out for her safety at a concert. I don't want to do it and I should not have too ! Plus it is expensive. Why can't I just do what I want and when I want and she can always accommodate me.

But I am married so your outlook may be different

Yeah… I’m gonna go. I don’t want to go, but I’m gonna go.

It just felt better to “rant” here instead of her! Lol.

Odd thoughts on a relationship there.

I have zero interest in going to any concerts these days, so my wife goes with her friend, her sister, or both. I have things I like to do that she doesn’t as well. I think we’d kill each other if we felt the need to make each other do things the other had no interest in.

We saw Elton John in April and it was a fantastic show!
One of the most expensive, non-festival concerts I’ve been to. Knocked us out about $500 and almost a 2 years wait thanks to Covid but he did not disappoint.

I saw Billy Joel and Elton John at County Stadium in Milwaukee. The tickets were around $50 and worth every penny. Of course, that was about 25 years ago.

Not sure what’s odd. My wife goes to country shows with the girls. I go to metal shows with my buddies. We see no reason to force the other to go. Regarding paying for it, I guess I don’t have the info on this relationship to make a judgement I guess. If it’s a long term live together thing I guess I can see paying.

These go to eleven.

There is nothing wrong about doing things separate but What if she has no one else to go with? Is there any circumstance where you would do something you don’t want to do simply because your wife asked and you know she would enjoy it?

I find it odd that you don’t think it looks good for a long term relationship.
I think it looks very good for a long term relationship if one is willing to make a simple sacrifice for your significant other simply because you know it will make them happy.

You can still go and get great seats for a reasonable price. You just have to be willing to wait it out until the last minute in the parking lot or at the box office. I've done it countless times and I've always, always scored. I've run two laptops, refreshing the screens every few minutes for days until - ta da - they released the good block right before the show, scored 7th row for VH in front of Eddie's mic for face value a day before the show. Done the same for countless Rush concerts by just going early with a wad of cash in the pocket and finding the right guy whose two friends couldn't make the show and just wanted to get something out of those two tix. The insane prices are for the people who have to have tix in hand on the day they go on sale. Those tix do nothing for me until the day of the show and I can wait until then.

Eventually many of these entertainers will be doing the casino tour and tickets will be much less in a more intimate venue. The casinos book the acts and help defray the cost of the performance in many instances.
