after retiring I took a part time job at a little hardware store 3 blocks from my house on Main Street in my little town. Our Main Street is filled with good restaurants and little shops. It looks like a Norman Rockwell painting. Very quaint Americana. There's not a lot of parking in downtown. We have our private parking lot that is in the middle of downtown. During lunch and dinner time people will take up all the spots along our store. Making it so our customers can't park and come to the store. Because of this we have to patrol the lot from time to time so our customers can park. We let anybody park in most of the lot except for along our building. We have probably 10 signs on the building. I would estimate probably 50-60 parking spots in total, but the ten spots against the building near the entrance are 20 minute parking for customers only. We have 2 handicap spots right next to the door. We have a fare amount of old guys and gals that frequent the store. So, It was a Friday night and the lot was filling up with people going to dinner. Our lot was filled with nobody in the store. I went out to clear people out of the spots at our building. I stopped about 20 cars from parking and then a lady pulled into the handicap spot. I was standing there watching and sure enough she pulled out a placard and hung it on the mirror. I watched her and she looked like a healthy 40 something with her kids. She got out and started to walk towards the restaurants. I told her that it was a private lot for our customers and she couldn't park there. This entitled bitch lost her shit and went all Karen on me. I have a Handicap placard and you can't tell me I can't park here etc, etc. I said yes I can. This is for our customers and is a private lot. She shrieked at me that she was going to call the cops on me and I was going to lose my job. She called the cops. They never came and she finally left the lot. I have found that people with the handicap placards feel very entitled and are actually inconsiderate of our handicapped customers and our store. I know not all people with handicap placards are this way but enough are for me to feel this way. ----------------------------------- Get your guns b4 the Dems take them away Sig P-229 Sig P-220 Combat

Geez. Sounds like she got one for being mentally handicapped. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I cannot count how many times I’ve seen a WELL abled body person park in a handicap space and walk briskly, jog, etc into a got damn store. They must be going to their PCP and talking their way into a placard. It’s bullshit. If it’s a well abled person acting as a driver for someone injured or handicapped, sure, but I’ve seen enough bs of this over the years. And fucking Karen. Everyone is an entitled narcissist these days. I cannot wait to move rural. I pray every single day for it to God. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Yeah, just because you have diabetes doesn't mean you need that handicapped space. Q

This^^ I always try really hard to look at it from somebody else’s perspective, because I know everybody has bad days - certainly I’ve had my share, but sounds to me like she was just being absolutely unreasonable. It’s a private lot, and she has no business parking there if she’s not using the services of the business. Don’t let her take up any more room in your head. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

Have seen teens/youngins park in HC spot many times and pointed out the same to them. Some apologize and move................others ignore or get mouthy. All I can say in they may not have been handicapped on the way in...but their cars may have been on the way out "No matter where you go - there you are"

And then, even if she was legitimately ‘handicapped’ she was trying to park in your lot & not go in your store. Even if she only had one leg, that isn’t right. Seems like a mild form of ‘swatting’ to me. Yeah, her main handicap is mental.

I get really grouchy about this too. I got my grouch handed back to me one day when a person explained, "yes, I get around fine. But I'm here to pick up my [I don't remember what relative], who truly can't walk any further than that, even with assistance." I still get grouchy about it, but I have to turn on the filter and keep it to myself these days. The Lovely Girlfriend reminds me from time to time that I don't know the whole story, and shouldn't get fired up quickly. She's right. God bless America.

Last time I went to traffic court, they were calling all the other cases while waiting for the cop for my case to show up (he did not and I walked). The case before mine was an old man who had parked in a handicapped spot with no placard. He came out while the cop was still writing him, protested that he had left it in the glovebox. Cop asked to see it, old man produced it. It belonged to someone else, was long expired, etc. Cop wrote him a second ticket for that. The old man was clearly weak and feeble and likely could have easily gotten a legit handicapped placard before the court date, etc. But the judge was pissed that he had lied to the cop and slapped him with a $200 fine, which he couldn't pay and had to go on a payment plan.

I have heart probs & was offered ‘handicapped’ placard, after another stroke. Politely told my cardio doc, “no thanks doc, I’ve got the bad heart but I’m not crippled, someone else can use it. Thank you though, I do appreciate the thought.” It bugs me to see regular Joe’s hogging these spots. The dermatologist we see had to put up fencing & gates, keeping restaurant customers out.

Not sure about your location however in Florida I have seen signs in business parking lots stating "Authorized customer parking only, all others will be towed" or something to this nature. Under the "only authorized parking sign" is another sign with the tow company information on it. My HOA has a sign on the gate with the tow company information. In my development you are not aloud to park on the street if you do your car will be towed, and I have seen this happen many times. The state of Florida has strict rules on how tow companies operate. Tow companies have to follow them or they can be fined. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Being deaf qualifies as a disability. The disabled could be a marathon runner and still qualify for a placard. The idea is that being closer to the door makes them less likely to be hit by another car. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

Good call! I never though about deafness. I’d just be afraid to let ‘em drive! Of course with my ticker maybe I shouldn’t be driving either.
