Intentional or not?

I'm trying to listen to music I've purchased from iTunes on a W11 PC. I installed the apple music app from the windows store; this sounds like the recommendation over the previous itunes method.

I start the app and sign in. I can see my purchased music. Try to play them and I get an error message indicating I must authorize the computer. I authorize the computer via the app; seems to work, no errors.

I try to play my music again - it keeps indicating I must authorize the computer.

Sigh. I get that apple and msft don't like each other. I don't know if these issues are intentional or just bad sw programmers.

But for fucks sake, how hard is it to just play music? If I buy it, just let me play it on any reasonably ubiquitous device. Tired of these shit games by large corps. Grow the fuck up.

Prime works on the PC. Don't like Prime, was trying to move to Apple but I guess Apple wants my biz even less than Prime.

I do online streaming from either radio garden, or from Tidal.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but when you "buy" music on Apple, you don't really own it. You own the rights to play it, however limited you are. You can't "give" it so someone else. Your designee will not "inherit" it when you die.

Have you tried contacting Apple support, either by phone or by "chat?"

I have always found them to be very helpful when I had a problem with any Apple product, whether hardware or software.

Absolutely dump iTunes. It has far too many issues. I just want a library of my own music files I can move/edit/play where/whenever I like.

I use a free music player/manager called MusicBee.

Did you "deauthorize" any old computers/devices you had this set up on? I used to run into this issue sometimes too when using Apple iTunes way back and it was always that you had too many devices authorized and until you basically free up a license, you will get this error.

I get the same thing on select songs. Can’t figure it out for the life of me. I’ve deauthorized and authorized the only computer on the account with no luck. It’s only on a few songs tho.

I do have several iPods and now have iTunes on my phone. Some songs will play on the mobile devices, but not all. It’s the strangest thing

TBH life is way too short to be playing around with this now-archaic method of music listening anyway.

Just get Spotify or Apple Music and stream it. No headaches like the OP is going through. Only software to install is a phone app. Easy as can be.

The problem with that is all you get is Canned Music. Basically music that was chosen by some stranger. With my music on my Iphone every single item was chosen by me. Right now I have Anvil Chorus by the BBC Big Band Orchestra playing and it will be followed up by Anvil Chorus by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra. After that there is Apres' toi by Mireille Mathieu and then Aqualung by Jethro Tull.

Yeah, I have wide ranging tastes in Music and like to put all of them on shuffle play. One time I had Wasted Youth by Meat Loaf segue into Mamma Mia by ABBA. A totally bizarre combination but I like the contrast so much I made it into a playlist.

I've stopped counting.

I had this issue recently with a couple songs on I Tunes. I went back to iTunes store and re-downloaded them. Worked like a champ

That is simply not true. You can stream music styles for sure but almost of everything I listen to on Spotify was chosen by me and built into a playlist.

What's fun is you can take a couple songs you like and it will create a playlist based off those; I was listening to stuff I had forgotten about for years from the 90's.

I never liked mixed playlists including random ones chosen by AI.
I prefer to listen to complete albums by a particular artist.
A live complication by the artist generally will have several of their "hits" if that is what you desire.
I like live recordings for the energy of the artist.
If you are having a party or event then maybe a random list in the background might work otherwise it is not for me.

iTunes has always been like cancer installed on a PC. It's god awful. I uninstalled it MANY years ago and use Pandora or some other web based streaming services.
