I am getting my mother's house in order to sell it and she had some older appliances-an oven, microwave and refrigerator but they are in great shape and work perfectly. I was pretty much giving them away. I listed it on Facebook, I know, big mistake, and someone stated they wanted them and he/we made plans this evening to pick it up from her house. The guy told me he would be there by 6:00 p.m. so I drove over there and waited there for a while. About 6:30, I messaged him through Facebook if he was still coming to get them and he said he is on the way but he was about 30-40 miles from me,working late.

I waited until about 8:00,fortunately I had other things to do. I sent him a couple more messages with no reply, so I went home. I was going to block him and told him instead to forget it. He messages me back saying he just got home, as he works late even though he said he was on the way at 6:30. Mad

I took them off the book of faces and put them down at the curb with a sign saying "free and they still work". They were hardly used, as my mother is older and doesn't use much other than the microwave. Next time I will just call Goodwill or the like to save time and trouble.
I have new ones coming tomorrow and that was the reason for giving these away.

Sorry, rant over.

My tiny town ,out in the weeds really needs a place for good stuff like you put out on the curb.

Month after month people toss out nice reusable , household "stuff" that some people could use.

Beds, dressers, appliances, chairs and tables.

( Our power company offers $50.00 for old refrigerators, and they come pick them up off the driveway)

And now the ghosting asshole will be ranting at you about not waiting for him…

Facebook is so frustrating these days, it’s really bad now. Marketplace seems to be overrun with scammers and game players.

I recently returned after 4 years just to post occasional fun family stuff and it’s like 75% AI generated bullshit now. Seems like most of my friends and family that I used to interact with before are all already gone.

Well things worked out. There was a family down the street from me that saw the appliances at the curb and came and took them. I told the guy I also had a refridge in the garage and he said he would take that also. His uncle came/walked down the street, about 1/8 of a mile away from me with a large hand truck and was going to walk them down. I loaned him my dolly and they rolled the fridge down as well.

I was trying to give the appliances away to a family in need but every phone call I made to larger charities, they wanted to charge me for pick up and delivery. Confused

Even Goodwill, for example, wants you to pay for a pick up for larger items they get for free and make a profit on.

I ran into this as well with a bed we couldn't use anymore, so we ended up chopping it into pieces and putting it in the dumpster. This was just a couple months ago.

Old appliances will last forever. New ones have to be replaced every 7 years. I would have tried to keep the fridge

It may be based on the size of the items being picked up. If you have smaller stuff, I'd call and ask. Goodwill actually hires outside services for their oversize pickups, don't know about normal donations.

IIRC some years ago saw where "Goodwill" is more of a for profit operation than a for charity operation and that the top dog was making a unwholy yearly salary........................... drill sgt.
