gpbst3The term "partner" referring who your in a relationship
I see it more and more online. It's even more difficult when your only identified by a username on a site and someone says my partner and I....
It's just seems as another way of gender washing.

That's my take. When I hear it used in that context I assume it's one of two situations:
Either they're not married, or it's a homosexual relationship.
Not that I give a shit either way...

ridewvI refer to Barb as my partner or lady friend, I don't know how else to? We're more than friends but aren't married.
No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

pace40Before my wife was my wife, she was my "main squeeze". Am I dating myself?

GraniteguyThe term "partner" has absolutely been morphed and adopted into the world of gender washing.
If someone told me twenty years ago that they were living with their partner, I would ask how that effects their professional relationship when riding together on patrol.

CPD SIGI've had a few "Partners" throughout my life. And was lucky to have them! Between doing Marine Corps shit and Cop shit... We've gotten into and out of some crazy stuff. Awesome people, and some of who I am closer with than I am to my own Brother, even after 20, 30, 35 years. Extremely close relationships form in certain hard times and tough situations.
The woman I'm married to, well that poor lady is my Wife. And I thank her for not putting the pillow over my head every morning when I wake up. 20+ years of putting up with my bullshit and NOT killing me (yet) and still wearing that ring I put on her finger all those years ago. Yep, she's earned the title of WIFE.

cee_KampMy girlfriend and I were not married. "Partner" usually wasn't the term we used.
Both of us were married before and got divorced.
We lived together, owned a home together, raised her children together, and split/shared the bills together.
Everything the same as being married, except the piece of paper and wedding rings.
Before she passed away, we were at the ALS Clinic in Syracuse, NY for our initial appointment after her ALS diagnosis.
Waves of medical people (each with different specialties) came into the room and talked with us.
The first group asked us our names, and with different last names, they asked what our relationship was.
Before she could speak, I piped right up and said nice and loud, "BOINKING BUDDIES" and the room went silent.
The staff & nurses had to look away while suppressing laughter.
I laughed my ass off on the way home in the truck, gungirl226 wasn't highly amused.
I believe the statement "You are an asshole" came out of her mouth several times.
Eventually, she did get over it.

2000Z-71Well, my lady is named Shaun. The amount of fun I have had at work over the past few months kicking the office rumor mill into high gear referring to her as, “My partner Shaun” has been off the charts. Being a nurse and working in a female dominated work environment with a bunch of 20 something young nurses this has been so entertaining. “Did you know Frank was gay?”
Yes I know, juvenile and in poor taste but it has been fun.

Exactly this. And for us it was 21 years ago yesterday!

The best sentence I have heard in many a year.
I call my "partner", my girlfriend or other half. We have been together off and on for 28 years. Why I have no idea.
I think the government or my parents give her a stipend each month... Or heck, it may be each week.
Between the US Army, Law enforcement, the medical examiner, college rugby, softball, plus me being an overall grumpy, resentful (being out of work) prick... She has earned every penny and more.
To be honest, I would have left me years ago.
Fromm my experience:
Partner will always be individuals who were on my patrol squad.
OR..... When I hear partner in public, my first thought goes to those lifestyle people.
