^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is true but it also comes down to principle as well. I get it we’re talking about adding a luxury to a luxury vehicle here and I am all for paying people fair and reasonable their work. This instance though we are talking about a 1 hour job, that took no tools more than a 10mm socket, an extension, and a ratchet, that the first day on the job lot tech could have done. It literally comes out as an $800 an hour labor rate. The dealership did themselves no favors on this one they lost one vehicle that had been going their for service and now the new additional vehicle won’t be going there. They lost doing pretty much all services on 2 vehicles for the next 10+ years. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

The problem is overhead. It has doubled in the last 5 years. Dealerships are usually on prime real estate and have a lot of it, so high taxes, super high insurance, employees, electric, etc. etc. etc.

His Royal Hiney![]() |
I had a coworker who had a Mercedez. He related a story to me. He brought his car to the dealer for an oil change. I forget the ungodly amount he said but he did ask the guy, "why so much for an oil change?" And the guy looked at him straight faced and said, "It's a Mercedes" as if that was a sufficient answer. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Wait until he finds out that it costs 2200 dollars to replace a 15 dollar headlight bulb. That was the quote for a friend back when cars had headlight bulbs and he was so pissed off he drove to a Jeep dealer just down the road and traded in that POS for a Grand Cherokee. Crap like this is why I will never purchase a German automobile made after 1984. After that any considering for ease of maintenance vanished. I've stopped counting.

When I had my Mercedes [2015 C300] it had an A & B service. One of those included a tire rotation & on paper was pretty obscenely priced. But, the car had staggered wheels & directional tires. So a rotation involved dismount & remount/balance. So, in that sense I guess it made some sense. I never got service do e at the dealer & was a DIY. Swapped to non-directional, non-runflat HP all seasons & did L<>R rotations with every oil change. The Enemy's gate is down.
