NO insurance + Fire= I have to donate?
Getting tired of this scenario.

Some local hillbilly who spends his money on alcohol, cigarettes and other items ,EXCEPT for home owners INSURANCE. Then has a house FIRE.

Now I am supposed to DONATE to his Go Fund Me or drop cash in a jar in a store. Getting tired of being put on the spot to donate every time I go to town.

I pay insurance premiums, why can't others? I must be dumb.

Yeah, we see it down south all the time.

No Flood Insurance, No Hurricane Insurance, etc - then it's "HELP ME!!!".

No, I won't donate - I use those funds to pay for my own insurance...

I have gotten used to saying No to everything when put on the spot for donations.

Yep, the storyline is always the same. We see it in virtually every fire.

I’d like to see an article that says “Hey, my fricken house burnt down and I’m fully covered. I don’t need a thing.”

Donations please! They don't want to earn a buck the way the rest of us did.

Can’t even buy my damn groceries without the automated machine asking me if I want to donate. No! I choose to whom and how much I give. Fuck off!

My wife frets over things like that. When she asks why I don't I remind her how forgetful she accuses me of being and that I can't afford to let such things occupy space in the wetware lest I become more so.

We actually had a local honky-tonk burn in Dadeville, AL that did the same thing. Big fundraiser because apparently they could make money on the business for the past 20 years but never thought to purchase insurance to cover a fire.

And this was the second fire at the same location.

Genius.

I belong to a club that "passes the hat" a few times a year. If I don't know the person I just don't give. When its a stupid cause, sometimes I give a dollar. Max.

But last year a couple had a chimney fire that took the house. They had insurance but its slow and doesn't cover everything. Whats worse, they have 2 cute little kids, and to make matters worse both of their parents are friends. So I opened my wallet and dropped in 5 $20 bills. The mother of the girl is an officer and sits right in front of me. She gasped. Then said that was very generous. It was intended to be.

So I'm kind of a jerk about it. I only give when I know and like the person(s), an like the OP opined, when they had coverage but it was only insufficient due to time issues. Yes, I'm a cheap bastard. If you don't like it, pound salt.

Nice to see I'm not just a grumpy old bastard who is a fan of personal responsibility. Thanks.

You're not the only one.

Around here, GoFundMe is the insurance of the 'hood. It substitutes for fire insurance, homeowner's insurance, health insurance, funeral pre-planning, comprehensive auto insurance, life insurance, savings accounts, or personal responsibility in general.

Why would you need them? You'll be dead and won't know. I can see that as a reason for go-fund-me. For all I care they can leave my stinking corpse lie about until it bothers them enough to throw dirt on me.

It's called caring about your loved ones and not leaving a stinking mess for them. I mean if you have anyone who cares about you.

Some years ago I worked with a drunk who got a DUI on way home from work. Apparently not his first as he did a few weeks in County Jail. (Pennsylvania) Under Civil Service rules at the time, he was offered treatment. When he was released from treatment center, we took up a collection for his lost wages. I coughed up $50. Total was just over $500 in collections from coworkers.

With that cash the Bastard went on a three day drunken spree and got another DUI.

He was then fired.....and asked for another cash donation. There was a loud cry of "Piss Off".

When they start that crap, just tell them that you are no longer supporting idiots, or the criminally stupid!

I've come with in a hair's breath twice this year of my wife having to cremate me....

I'll usually donate to something if asked... depends on my bank account and how much I have in my wallet as to how much...

Guy at a table in the local Gun Show representing the American Legion got me yesterday I was happy to give him some cash in for nothing else in memory of my father and late brother in law.

Thread running over in the Lounge. This about fire extinguishers. Same as go fund me. I now carry 3 of them. One a dry chem of questionable viability. Might be just a cake in the bottom, who really cares. The one for my vehicle is Halon. They work pretty well.

Having just finished watching "The Irishman," I interpreted the 2 burial plots to mean something entirely different Smile
