In November 1999 I was flying with a former Marine. The kind of guy who was genuinely tough but genuinely generous. Figuring it would spark a fun conversation, I asked him if he was making any particular preparations for Y2K in case the disaster predictions came true. He shook his head and said, “Nope. All my neighbors are Mormons, and I have guns”.

True story.

He was kidding but also not kidding. It opened up some new thoughts for me, both about sources of resources (lots of part time owners here) and the need to protect my resources from marauders.

I am in the not kidding camp.

I can't tell you how many friends have said they're coming to my place in the event of a disaster.
And can will gladly carry a rifle.
