Happily shooting steel today with my 2017 SIG 226 DA/SA last stage down to few rounds.. I started to get intermittent failure to fire. Noo im nearly on empty with ammo,it got worse. Had to stop just wasting ammo keep on ejecting brass. Got back to the house found a sliver of Brass on the DA/SA firing pin. Cleaned the pin will not be out for a couple of weeks to test the gun. I assume the Brass sliver was impeding the firing pin. Factory ammuniton first time this has happened. Good Fix I hope so. If it's not the brass in the firing pin channel, then find out if may be a prior owner or anyone swapped out the hammer main spring for a lighter one? A stock OEM weight p226 hammer main spring should normally never fail to light a primer. I know Wolff springs (and others) has Sig P-series spring kits that can make the DA pull nice and smooth/light, but they also also get worn out after a while with the lighter weight springs and can start giving light primer strikes. Simple fix in that case would be replace worn light hammer spring with new one.

Sir your a genius I swapped out the hammer spring for a lighter hammer spring, but that was over 6 months ago. If cleaning the sliver off the firing pin does not fix the problem;I will swap back the factory spring. Thank you. I use the 226 for matches only. ![]() ![]() "Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don't have for something they don't need" Will Rogers SIG 229R LEGION SAO SIG 226R Elite SAO SIG 226R DA/SA SIG 938 SAS SAO

It may not contribute to the light strikes, but that pistol needs a bath. Watch for the Sig Spring Cleaning sale if you don't want to do a complete strip and clean yourself. Good luck.

If I remember right, the factory hammer spring weight is 24lbs for the p226. I know they sell them as light as 14lbs, but around 19-20lbs should still give a lighter pull, and be stiff enough to not have longer term light strike issues. Since you only use the particular pistol for matches anyways, I'd just get a new one of whatever weight has been working for 6 months, and keep replacing it over time as a game gun doesn't need the long term spring reliability and a heavier trigger pull would be more likely detrimental to your scores on a "match-only" pistol.

I went and put the original hammer spring back in. This gun is nearly NOS; when I bought it, it had hardly been used found that out when I stripped, inspected, cleaned and lubed it. I got 'Talked' into a lighter hammer spring. I'll go back to two shots first target on DA. Thanks for the comment. As for giving them a bath, thank you for the suggestion.
