I need a new slide stop/safety spring for my Colt. It’s really weak. Is there a specific brand you stick with for any reason? I know Wilson and Ed Brown make quality parts.

I also need a mainspring housing cap retaining pin. It’s not the kind of part that gets launched but I can’t find the darn thing.

Perhaps you could suggest a good pin kit and spring kit. The reason I ask is because I don’t want to waste my time with some cheap spring that’s just going to go dead in a year.

I always use Ed Brown or Wilson but have used some Cylinder and Slide parts over the years.

Pretty much Ed Brown usually has had what I have needed though.

Harrison Custom is another supplier of quality parts.

How do Nighthawk parts compare to Wilson, Ed Brown, etc.?

I have bought Ed Brown or Wilson Combat with equal quality results.
If you are going to change the slide lock spring, change the pins too.
Always good to have a complete spring and pin kit on hand with a spare extractor.

Wolff plunger tube spring.

I’m building a 9mm 1911 and sourced most of my small parts from EGW. They sell ISMI springs which are good as well.

On that particular part, it really doesn’t matter. Pretty much everybody procures small springs like that from the same vendor I think in this case it’s Wolff.

For other parts like the actual slides stop it makes a huge difference because there are some differences in how the materials are made whether they’re cast, forged, machined from billet, etc.
