Wandering around Harbor Freight and noticed this-- a hard rubber, non-marring largish (8" X 6") wheel chock. I have been using it and find it perfect for auto slides and frames, and it has many recesses to capture pins and springs and such.

In my experience too soft for real work like taper pins. I drill holes in hockey pucks. Work well for most uses.
