A push to remove some gun free zones for concealed pistol licensed holders.

It would remove schools/day care, churches etc., entertainment facilities of all sizes, hospitals, dormitory or classroom of college or universities... from being off limits for having a CPL.
I'm not sure of the odds this could go through.

Going through the Legislature is one thing, signing into law by the Governor fat chance of that.

Yeah, I get it. But I like the direction.

I do too.

But the track record of the present administration has not been friendly to us here.
One only has to look at the laws passed in response to the Oxford High School shootings and the MSU Campus shootings. None of those enacted laws would have changed a thing in either case.

And with the laws that died in the Legislature in December of last year, one restricting the allowable colors of firearms, the other regarding possession of unserialized firearms, exempting “antique” but no definition of what the state considers an antique. Federal law definition is manufactured before 1898 or a reproduction of same. But the Gun Control Act of 1968 allows firearms manufactured prior to its enactment to be possessed without serial numbers. If that law had been passed we would have been required to affix a serial number to our C&R eligible firearms or to surrender them to the state for destruction.

As much as I disliked the Granholm years she was actually more on our side with no challenges to our being a “shall issue” state for CPL’s and signing the Castle Doctrine into law.

So, don’t count on it until this administration is gone.

As a P.S. I do agree with one of the laws that were enacted, the one that requires the seller of a handgun to now deliver to a law enforcement agency a copy of the registration form that is forwarded to the State Police.

In the East Lansing case there were conflicting reports on how and where the shooter obtained the handguns used, the only thing consistent was that they were not registered which I’m assuming was with the State Police. Regardless, McRae (shooter) was previously charged with a felony concealed weapon charge and was allowed to pleas to a misdemeanor so he was not prohibited from purchasing later.

And with Oxford, it came out in the trial that while the handgun used was stored in a lockbox the lock code was never changed from the factory default code.
