New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) signed legislation Friday to criminalize private gun sales in the state.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reported that there has been a great divide over the bill, with state-level Democrats pushing it while gun rights groups, the vast majority of New Mexico Sheriffs, and New Mexico county governments oppose it.

Grisham dismissed those who did not support the gun control push, saying, “It’s clear to me that the NRA isn’t going to stop trying to meddle in making this a safer state.”

On March 2, Breitbart News reported that 21 of New Mexico’s 33 counties had declared themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries,” to indicate they would not be enforcing the gun control. Moreover, on February 10, Breitbart News reported that 29 of New Mexico’s 33 sheriffs signed a statement against the gun control. And the New Mexico Sheriff’s Association also made clear it planned to sue the state if the new gun control was enacted.

Grisham ignored the sheriffs’ concerns, tweeting, “A few law enforcement officers in this state have been making noise about how they won’t enforce gun safety measures because they don’t like them. That’s not how laws work, of course, and it’s not how oaths of office work either.”

I believe Holder's Justice Dept showed the country that if you don't like a law don't enforce it.

Proponents of the bill the governor signed have already said its an incremental process. They want more. They are not finished with gun control. NM is a lost cause with the overwhelming advantage the Dems have in the legislature and the GOP fractured and looking like deer in the headlights. It will be years before the GOP can win, maybe never. In the meantime the governor and legislature will do a lot of damage.
The new law cannot be enforced without registration and the Dems know it. Once they get registration we know what comes next.

This is how bad laws are nullified. Just because something is legal doesn't make it right, and while it may be possible to reverse bad law via the ballot box, it is rare. Hence ignoring them & refusing to carry out such dictates. It is a double-edged sword however.

FUCK...that...bitch. Mad

That about sums up how I feel about this dumbass governor.

According to the NRA-ILA, 30 of 33 sheriffs in NM oppose it. They are working the Red Flag law through now. I'm not optimistic that it will fail.

"...but the people want it!" Roll Eyes

Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control group affialted with Michael Bloomberg gave New Mexico Democrats and Democrat PACs $396,000.00 in the 2018 elections, with the new governor getting $11,000.00. The NRA gave a little over $21,000.00.
With instant voter registration on the horizon, more gun control in New Mexico seems likely.

The NM Senate and House passed the red flag bill and is on its way for the governor to sign who will sign it as part of her agenda. 30 of 33 sheriffs opposed the bill. Sad times for New Mexico. More draconian bills will be introduced as the Dems control both houses with a far left governor. Seem familiar.

Wait till the socialist commies ban fracking in New Mexico. You'll just to be able to call it Mexico then. It's the one bright spot in there economy. It must be destroyed.

All I can say is FUCKING democrats are a true cancer to America and need to be stopped. Personally, I am sick and tired of every single democrat in America, and the constant assault on the Constitution. If any of you closet democrats out there can justify what your fellow democrats are doing, please explain.
PS: I don't give a shit if you closet democrats are offended. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM AS WELL!

I heard this second hand so take it for what it's worth, but apparently, after the Governor signed the bill into law, she made a statement telling the sheriffs who were opposed to the bill to resign because it was now law and they had no choice but to enforce it.

Does she support sanctuary cities?

Wink We made the same point when the Second Amendment County movement began in Colorado and Democrat politicians criticized it.

Truth be told, although New Mexico Governor Grisham is certainly sympathetic enough to advocate for and aid illegal aliens I haven't found any comments clearly stating that she supports the illegal alien sanctuary City or State movement...but if I was a betting man I would guess yes.

I've noticed that govenors and mayors of sanctuary states and cities have become more saavy and sly recently and shy away from the term "sanctuary" even if they support the concept. I caught an interview with Denver Democrat Mayor Hancock today and he bristled at the description of Denver as a Sanctuary City, and questioned what that even meant, even though his administration's policies plainly make it one.

She is using the current situation to further her gun control campaign The writer in the editorial is just parroting her. The 2nd to last paragraph is telling.

Does her rhetoric look familiar to anyone? The same "I have the Right to be safe" that you heard from COVID panickers, all the while saying that it wasn't the same tactics used by the gun grabbers?

Remember, federalization (and unionization) of the local police is the end game.
