Initiative To Split State in Three Makes November Ballot

"In November, Californians will be able to vote for an initiative that could divide their state into three separate entities: Northern California, California, and Southern California. But the idea to split California into three states with similar populations and political representation is a long way from becoming a reality. Venture capitalist Tim Draper, the man behind the “Cal 3” proposal, collected more than 402,468 signatures by Tuesday, enough to qualify it for the general election ballot in November."

I hadn’t realized until this morning (news) that the bid to break up California had gotten as far as it has.

I don’t see a downside. Seems like the Pelosi gang would vehemently oppose it so that means I’d be in favor.

What’s the word on the street as to how realistic this might be in November?

The downside is six Democrat US senators instead of two.
I would favor only if the liberal enclaves from San Francisco to LA are all in the same state.

yes, its conservative areas pushing this and while its possible to get 6 dem senators it's more likely a split and we get a chance to break up a huge EC state that is nearly always blue.

I thought it would favor Republicans, giving us possibly two seats, while the Dems keep 4. The bigger benefit might be US Representatives, where we'd pick up an advantage, and also an Electoral advantage too.

I did read the article. Here is something to consider. While it may fall out that cali retains 2 dem senators and the two new states gain two republican senators. It WILL not stay that way. First of all look at the migration of Cali Dems to Oregon in the 1970's turning it into the crap fest it is today, then look at the Cali dems migrating past oregon into Washington and Montana since the 1980's turning them into their prospective government will feed us.

Once cali granola crunchers see greener gras, lower taxes on the other side of the fence, they will do what they have done for the last fourty fucking years. MOVE, find a cheaper place and proceed to make it the same shit hole they came from. There by making it 6 dem senators with in a decade. SO NO, i don't think this a good idea.

A better one would t just cut cali off of federal funding, kick it to the curb and build a fucking wall around it.

I believe that I read somewhere, can't remember where so I can not provide a citation nor a link, that California actually sends more tax money to the fed than they receive back.

Irrespective of the map and demographics, wealthy liberal/progressives will move to the Red states and make them Blue.

There will be a diaspora of the wealthy for tax purposes, much like we see on a national level.

I can see that as being possible with strictly tax dollars from the fed. However they get power from other states, they get water from other states, trash goes to other states. Cut the wankers off. wall them up. let them go lord of the flies for 50 years. I am sick of their shit.

This occurred to me as a serious question, because any number of States could divide themselves up into smaller States solely for the purpose of gaining more Senators and more relative political power. So, legally, is it really just a decision that is up to an individual State ? Since it really does affect the nation, do we have any say in the final situation ? Have people just assumed that all new States are still part of the "United States" ?

This is somewhat my position as well.
While it makes a healthy ideological statement.

It is fraught with "unintended consequences".

And don't think organizations backed by Soros and the Clinton cabal aren't going to set-up shop in these new states.

No, it is not mandatory that any new States be admitted to the Union. First, the petition vote must pass. Then it must pass in the California legislature. Then, and only then, will it go to the US Congress for consideration.

I would prefer just splitting off the ultra-lib GDCs in the heavily populated area between SF and LA.
