Some one sent this to me in an email:
A guy came into a department the other day to ask a favor. He had a S&W 629 that he wanted to dispose of after a mishap at the range. He said there was a loud bang when he tested his new load and the gun smacked him in the forehead, leaving a nice gash. When the tweety birds cleared, this is what he saw..... |

That's some scarey stuff right there Deuce. Most likely a way out of spec reload. Blew the top strap completely away. Phewwww

he is lucky he got away with just a gash- that could have gone bad any number of ways. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN SHOOTING!

Ouch!! What a shame to lose that pistol.
We used to have trustees load our revolver ammo many years ago. Someone hot loaded a .38spl wadcutter and an officer's brand new (privately owned) S&W Model 36 blew up. Luckily, he was wearing safety glasses because that's where the shrapnel went. He wasn't hurt bad, but the department got him a new pistol (to avoid liability!). We never used reloaded ammo again... *************************************** What type of cheese would you like with your whine? |

That's a BIG kaboom! I wonder how hot it was loaded; it had to be pretty substantial to do that.

Wow, it even detonated the 2 rounds next to it. Some people just shouldn`t reload.

I've seen something just like this. A local range had (maybe still has) a Model 60 that a guy brought in. Topstrap blown off, several chambers blown completely out of the cylinder, etc. Supposedly he had dangerously UNDERloaded a round, which caused a pressure spike, completely detonating the weapon.
Always reload carefully... ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ "Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. With a little work we can convert that to a top open revolver.

Holy crap!!
That's one hell of a KB. Wonder how hot that new load was? Kevin Karma? Karma is just justice without the satisfaction. |

I don't know if I would want a trustee doing my reloads. I've often wondered about them doing the work on units. _______________________________________________________ And no, junior not being able to hold still for 5 seconds is not a disability. |

This was back in the early 1970s. One or two trusted trustees did the reloading. The rest washed cars. That was cost effective back then. The line officers were not happy with it, but it was out of our hands. The potential for law suits changed it all. Happily, it finally ended... *************************************** What type of cheese would you like with your whine? |
