Lovely shots - what lens did you have on it?

Wow! Beautiful shots. We have a couple of humming birds in the mornings at the flowers outside our kitchen. They are amazing. Nice shots!

Thank you. I used the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM with a 1.4X extender.

WOW! Only 1/1250? I was expecting twice that. Did you have to process out much, if any, noise at ISO 800?

BTW...great capture...and thanks for sharing the data.

Nice - I just plain do not know what lens I will go for when I decide to go with my next long lens. I want good reach.

@BoS,

Yeah, the beautiful thing about the Canon 1D Mk III is that it is a 10MP sensor with *huge* imaging sites giving you very quiet images. ISO 800 images on the 1D Mk III look like ISO 200 images on other cameras. In fact, ISOs up to 1600 are actually very nice as well. For instance, check out this picture I shot in downtown LA a couple of months ago at ISO 1600:

Neva,

I can highly recommend the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS. It is simply an awesome lens. Of course that is not quite enough reach for proper birding as BoS can attest, but it also does not come quite as dear as a 400mm f/2.8 either. I've actually been entertaining the idea of the 400mm f/5.6 L, but that might actually be a bit slow for birding. Regardless, I am waiting to see what is announced at Photokina next month before buying anything.

I'm a big Hummingbird fan, thanks for the cool pictures. I have two feeders outside my office window, so far they've gone thru over 15 lbs of sugar this Summer.

The 70-200 2.8 is a very good lens, I keep that on my 40D most of the time.

Win

I'll be watching the news coming out of there like some folks watch the Olympics.

Thanks all. dont_treat_on_me, the photo of the soundboard at the concert was from a street concert by Miles from India, a jazz group doing Miles Davis interpretations. It was pretty awesome.

meerkat,

Thanks! Who are you on Slashdot? ~meerkat? The Slashdot community certainly has been around for a while I still spend some time there, the noise is much higher now than it used to be. Though I still learn new things there from time to time, so its worth hanging around.
