911 what is that the eagle is lugging off for lunch? Going by the feet, it looks like maybe a juvenile turkey?

I’m no orntholigist, but I believe it is some type of duck we have gobs of in the area.

*ETA*

After some web searching, I believe it is an “American Coot”. Feet give it away, not a duck, doesn’t have webbed feet. Also called a Mud or Marsh Hen.

Here is one in better condition (not my pic)...

Hah. Learned something.

My first thought when I saw the black feathers and long neck was "coot" as we have a raft of them around here too, but I always thought they had webbed feets like a duck.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I looked into that. It appears the late Mr. Lennon was from the UK. This firearm was from the land of my parents so I do believe it would be:
nein, nein, nein! Big Grin

Caught this guy pretty quick. Smile

Then it started drizzling so I left my rod and bag and went into the woods to wait it out. I was throwing through that opening in the bushes at the lower left. Then it started pouring and kept up for almost an hour. I got soaked to the bone. Frown

I said forget it and I got my gear and headed to the car. When I got to the car it stopped raining. Mad

I rung out my shirt, changed hats, and went back and caught this little guy. Smile

Mostly BLM land a great area to shoot, miles of backroads.
