I think I remember another thread on it. I can't remember who made the wood kit. The grip? Looks pretty sharp.

It's nice, I might be interested in buying one if the price is right.

That looks great! I've tossed around the idea of building one like that for quite some time. It's not the first version I'd recommend for anyone, but once you're getting a good sized AR family, it certainly has its place.

Yeah, mainly because I had the lower, and you can't buy new anymore in MA. http://blackgunswood.com/products.html is where I got these. Exactly right. My question is: why is the trigger guard not walnut? That would be a unique touch. A hardwood like walnut would probably leave enough material around the roll pins to still be effective.

Hmm. Hardwood trigger guard. I'll have to think about it. It would probably break very easily no matter what wood you made it out of, due to the size, a very hard wood doesn't really help as it's almost more likely to crack in things that small than say SPF. Can't say I've ever thought of such a thing. That looks cool. You can always make a walnut sleeve to go over the metal trigger guard. The rigidity would be consistent with what you'd be familiar with.

That looks very cool. I always wanted to do a 10.5" ar sbr up like an old M1A1 Thompson.

No, it's just a wee bit heavier than one with regular furniture. Maybe a pound more, if that. Attractive in appearance and it might not offend the anti 2A crowd as much. But some things just look best in all black. Beware of a man whose only pistol is a 1911, he's probably very good with it.

Look is a small part of it. It's absolutely NOT about the "anti-2A crowd," I assure you. I like wood. I've refinished a lot of surplus rifle stocks over the years, owned Garands, M1 Carbines, semiauto M-14s, and more. I work with wood as an occupation. I wanted some on an AR-15. I bet just handling it would change your mind. It has that "rifleman" feel that only wood can give to a weapon. I disagree that some things look best in all black, particularly when that's the primary color they're available in. Case in point: If you've got some ARs, you might want something a little outside the box. Something both classic, and unconventional at once. I wager that everyone who shoots this rifle, is going to enjoy it. People might come in here, and poo-poo wood stocks on an AR. But they know in their hearts that it looks good, and now they secretly want it. It's the Kwisatz Haderach of AR-15s, staring back at you from the place you dare not look! Nice! I have always enjoyed wood and blued steel. Wood and black is equally as nice. In the second photo the shadow makes the stain look darker and deeper. I wonder how a black walnut finish would look.
