They are vicious, aggressive animals. I dang near drowned in dog spit...

whododatSo true.
On the other hand,I am pretty sure no one would be able to cause harm to anyone in your family. We had two of them over the years. They were very protective of us.
Great looking dogs you got there!
Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

Thanks. They're actually at my daughter's house, my wife is allergic. I did convince her (not a difficult task...) to get two and I pay "child support" to help with the bills. The dark one is registered in my name.
I haven't been around to see how they react to strangers, but daughter says they are well behaved but very alert when someone they don't know is around.
I suspect you'd have to be nucking futz to get aggressive with daughter or grandson, or try to get in the house with no one home.

soflaacSuckers are heavy too, so if you get gang tackled like OP, you stand a decent chance of being suffocated.

PHPaulWe weighed the male pup (the white one) he's 9-ish months old. Within the accuracy of an ordinary bathroom scale running towards the top of it's capacity, he weighs 100 pounds.
(180 pounds of grandson plus dog registered 280 pounds).
Little turd managed to stand on my zipper 3 different times while we were sitting on the couch...

Sir GuyA family member had one. He was a hyper but loving dog. I used to pick him up and throw him over my shoulder like a bag of potatoes. Calmed him right down. You could see it in his expression: “This human is picking me up like I’m a puppy. Guess I’d better behave myself!”

Now that you mention it...
As I understand it, Akitas were developed from a variety of Nordic dogs, so it's quite possible there's some Elkhound in there somewhere.

357fuzzMe too!!!! I had a female named “Princey” short for Princess Leia. Best dog I have had. A smart dog and a fine, protective, and loving companion.
Oh, and Akita’s are nice too. One of my wife’s best friends has had a few.

Thanks! It's my desktop background on my computer AND my phone.
Hard job to get her to stand still long enough for a portrait.

My sister and her husband used to call their daughter Bear. I never really did hear the reason why. They also called her Boo. Maybe they figured she looked like Yogi's pal.
I remember holding her in the crook of my arm when she was just a few weeks old, wrapped up in a blanket like a burrito. She turns 23 in a few days, and got married two years ago come July. Sigh....
OP: Gorgeous dogs, especially yours!
