I went to the store to buy primers and some powder and found this....a 1971 Marlin 1894 44 Magnum.
I've been casually looking for a pistol caiber carbine. I hand-load for a S&W 29-2 so this is perfect. It came with this Simmon's scope. Off to the Range tomorrow |

Cool. Receiver sight?

There is an empty dovetail in the back, and an iron sight in the front. The scope is pretty crappy. I'd like to find the correct iron sight and get rid of the scope.

Fun to shoot! The indoor range that I go to allows pistol calibers. The receiver does get hot. I have to get rid of this scope.
It's really different shooting 44 magnum from the carbine, compared to S&W 29-2. When firing the carbine...it thumps. I can see hunting with this caliber. I know I'll have fun hand-loading it. |

The scope does take away from the beauty and style of the carbine.
Nice one- have fun with it. I wish someone would make one in 357 sig. CHARLIEB []]]]]]]]]]]]]]\> -----)_'_\ * ( ''---------\ - \ ''----------\*_\ A few sigs, a couple revolvers, and a few others "Here hold my beer while I light this" Lefty |

Nothing better than a Marlin lever action in my opinion! I removed the white spacer between the butt pad and the stock and then sanded the stock and forearm down. Then I applied several coats of Lin Speed Oil with 00 steel wool in between to give it a nice satin finish like the Marlins from 120 years ago. I added a saddle ring and a John Wayne custom lever along with an action job and spring kit from Wolff. My dad cut the barrel down to 16" for me. The engraving is by Michael Gouse ( www.mtart.com ) Here's my .44 Magnum 1894:
Now you just need to hop on over to these websites and starting dreaming and saving your money: http://www.levergunleather.com/p_buttstock_covers.htm http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/index.php You may want to consider Skinner Sights as well: http://skinnersights.com/ |

I just ordered a Marble Flat-top/fold down from Brownells.
Do I use locktite to install it in the dovetail? I installed the sight. At the lowest setting the gun is shooting 3 inches high at 25 yards. I did get it centered, right on the button. Wrong site? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jeff Yarchin, |

No Locktite™ is necessary.
You just tap it in with a brass drift. A wise man's tools are analogies and puzzles. A wise man knows silence will speak for him. |
