I've been lurking for a long time, but I figured it was time to finally start a thread. In the spirit of Deer Season post up pics of your best trophy, be it from land, sea, or air.

My friends and I started offshore fishing this summer after a buddy's dad got a new boat. We've mainly focused on tuna and shark fishing and we've had a lot of success for 8 people who really had no experience before we started. Our first big trip out we got an 6.5 ft. Mako shark and we caught probably a 800 pounds worth of Tuna off the coast of NJ and NY over the course of the summer.

But the prize catch of the summer was this Thresher shark that my college-buddy Christian caught in July. It measured 16 ft. nose to tail (7 foot of that was tail) and weighed 435#. It was rough getting him onto a 32 ft. boat; it took 3 hours and a 12 gauge slug to brain to put him away, but man was it fun. After seeing all the sharks I've seen this summer, I'll never again swim in water where I can't see the bottom .

Nice "Thrasher"! You'll have some great eating steaks there. Wink Was it caught from a fighting chair or "stand-up" style?

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks." Thanks for the help with the pic, Mister Joshua Smile

There's 3 holes in a line from the eye to the gills. The top hole is a gaff entrance wound, the middle is a gaff exit wound, and the bottom is the slug entrance wound.

The shotgun barrel was touching the shark when I fired, really didn't want to hit the boat.

I grew up fishing offshore in NJ. Bluefish, Stripers, Flounder and Fluke. And yeah, the beach is never the same once you realize just how much "stuff" is out there Big Grin. But you may want to rethink your new decision. Most folks are attacked in 3-5 feet of water, very close to shore. Enjoy the beach and be smart about where and when you swim. Oh and don't scream like a sissy next time a kid bumps you from behind hehehe.
