I took this one around Father's Day when my wife purchased tickets for the boy and I to go on a three hour ride (que Gilligan's Island Music). All three of us got to go on The Hawaiian Chieftan which is the sister ship to The Lady Washington.
Both ships came down from Gray's Harbor Washington to Pasco Washington. Dave |

Awesome ships! Do you have any more, such as being on deck?
As for the photo, the trees cover all of one ship and half of the other unfortunately. -Richard |

I think you were trying to frame the ships with the trees, but they more obscure the ships and clutter up the frame.
New photographers often tend to focus on the main subject, and forget to look at every element in a photo. That is natural. You have to train yourself to look at the whole image, though. Look at your mother's snapshots sometime - she focuses on the faces in the picture and the faces will often be centered in the frame with tons of unused space at the top of the frame, and a weird object will appear to be growing out someone's head because she didn't even notice it was there. ________________________________________________________ When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk. |

from the deck of The Hawaiian Chieftan shooting Lady Washington an on deck photo taken by my wife with my camera me doing some line handling climbing the rigging (no not me I didn't want to pay the $20.00 for the experience) The wife on deck unfurling the sail [IMG]my boy steering the ship (under the Captain's guidance) and I see what you mean about the trees, unfortunately where I was I couldn't get them out of the frame even with my shortest focal length (18mm). you could have tried blurring them out. adjust to a wider aperture and focus on the boat. the fuzzy foilage wont be so distracting.

Looks like a fun time. I'd love to go out and do that.

Saw the post and had to add this. This was taken down in Clearwater FL about 3 weeks ago.
