The interior is truly massive. 40,000 people can apparently fit in SRO.

A sundial that traces the months by a shaft of light at noon.

Baptismal font that used to be an emperor's bathtub.

The stained glass is amazing and spans at least 600 years of style.

Window depicting Michael vs. Satan

The main Sun window that faces east and lets the light of creation fill the church in the morning.

Sculpture and art just stunning.
A 10 foot tall candelabra.

One of two enormous altars used to block a pair of doors that citizens used to use to drive horses, carts and whatnot through the cathedral as a shortcut to market.

A statue of St. Bartholomew who was martyred by having his skin peeled off. Here he is wearing his skin as a cloak. Apparently this was less about a religious statue than the artist showing off how well he knew the body.

From the treasures

Even the floor was cool.

Whew, hopefully these won't crash the server, and I hope you liked them.

Thanks for those pictures.

You know, despite being a technology guy for a living, when I see things like this I often take it as a reminder of how the world is neither better nor worse off.

But simply radically different. Without technology, it is true that we would not be seeing this. But like so many things, you are better off for having experienced it yourself.

Awe inspiring.

Jebus! Awesome pics!

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks." Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1785.
