Bienvenue, Mac. As you can tell from one or two threads rolling around here, there's a lot of members who envy you for having that German 228.

Bienvenue! Please tell us a little about the Gun Laws en France?

OK, I'll try to explain shortly what's happen in FRANCE ABOUT GUNS LAWS (with my poor english... sorry) :

Abstract :

It's absolutely forbidden in France to have end carry a gun without a good professional reason (Police, Army, Secret Service, Cash carriers, customs services, etc.).

Gun are classified in 2 categories : 1st and 4th. Holding and possession both is forbidden without special agreement.

1st category :
War weapons (so, guns...), specially
- guns and rifles built for the war
- all automatic weapons (all calibers and destinations)
- night riflescopes
- all arms forecasted for army forces.
For example, all 9mm para (my SIG p228 !) and .45 SA pistols are in 1st category.

4th category :
A. Guns :
- weapons non included in 1st category,
- SA pistols with caliber lower than 7,65 mm (.32) and revolver don't fired rounds classified in 1st category (.357, .44, .40, .38sp, etc.)

B. Rifles
- Rifles <80cm length or barrel's length < 45 cm,
- SA weapons can fire up to 3 rounds (3 ont the magazine, 1 into barrel),
- Bolt-action rifles with box magazines may contain up to 10 cartridges
- Shotguns

So, if you are civilian guy (like me) and you want to hold these weapons and guns, you must be a shooting club's member and have an special agreement (your paper came back lower than 3 months if your are a cool and "mint" guy...).

In France, it's not very "politically correct" to love guns and weapons. Our laws and History are not the same like in US. Old Europe is... old Europe !

Any questions ?
