Hello all.
Just bought my first hand gun and it is the Sig P226 9mm.
After reading a bit I don't know if I am having a little remorse in not buying the .357 or .40
But what a beautiful gun.

Welcome. There isn't anything wrong with 9mm, but now you have an excuse to by another gun.

From a fellow Virginian welcome to the forum!

9mm is a very good choice especially for a 226 and is much easier on the wallet than 40/357sig if you plan on shooting a lot.

Welcome! Now go get yourself a P239 in .40, and you'll have that remorse thing put away nicely.

cdrross - I think you made an EXCELLENT choice. The 9mm cartridge is a very good home defense round (Speer Gold Dots, etc.) and you can get hardball range ammo much cheaper than the larger calibers. For a first handgun, you did great!

Howdy!

If you got the DAK model, I think you made the best possible choice. If it's not DAK, then you made the second-best choice. Now check and see if the recoil spring's strong enough (if it's flinging brass like twenty or thirty feet, the recoil spring's not strong enough), and whether you can put the right part of your trigger finger on the right part of the trigger (requires a bigger hand or longer fingers than most because of the double stack magazine), and if it's too big a stretch, install a short trigger. Finally, you need tritium night sights or a crimson trace laser grip or both.

Then you'll have what I've got and I love it just the way it is (now).

Oh, also, the factory does not try to sight in the gun. Their idea of keeping the quality under control means that they shoot it three to five times to "see if it groups"; if it does, it passes, regardless of where the group is on the target. So it's up to you to sight in the gun yourself. And that all makes sense, as people hold the gun differently. I, for example, am stronger in the right hand, but left-eye dominant, so I can't help angling the gun a little, and need the sights set to compensate for that.

Now you need something you can carry concealed. Actually, I've taken to carrying the Sig 226 around unless I have peculiar clothing requirements for something I have to go to. It's not that much bigger under my baggy T shirts.

Now you can get a 229 for your next one.. and with an extra barrel you can shoot both calibers in it.

Welcome to the forum. Don't regret getting the 9mm its cheaper to shoot and with the advancements in bullet technology in the last few years there are now some really great loads available. You did good so now go shoot the hell out of it!

Now you have my head spinning with all of theses other options Eek
Actually I have been doing a lot of lurking and searching about the gun I have gotten.
It is the P226ST (U671398 sn) with a made in Germany Frame, Hogue finger grips (also have the originals). I don't have, but will get night sites. I have put 200 rounds through and there will be many more.
No more regrets here!!! Big Grin
I am using Hornady 124 TAP for my SD rounds.
From what I have seen around the forum, I think I actually have a nice even somewhat lucky find.
