Spooky,
Thanks for your service. You were probably there during some especially difficult times.

I was with the 10th Mountain Division and later the 34ID (Minnesota National Guard unit). Earlier, I served with the British as a US Liaison. When were you there, and with whom did you serve?

FH72,
I did my undergraduate and graduate work in Minnesota. My best friend in college was from Winterset, Iowa. Though I didn't live there, through him, I felt as if I had lived in the state.

Well, I guess "especially difficult times" would describe them a touch...heheh I was in 3ID the first trip in 2003 when we kicked off this latest bit (redeployed in SEP 03, before they decided all units had to be there as long as they have been since--due partly to how long 3ID had already been sitting in Kuwait before the drive north started), and went back for a second trip in 2004 while with a unit in USASOC (sorry if that's vague; I hope you understand). I returned 2005-2006 as a security contractor--as I was by then ARNG (it was my "civilian" job)--and again as a contractor 06-07. After those 4 Iraq trips, and working elsewhere as a contractor for a wee while, I met my now-wife and decided to stick closer to home. She seems happy with that decision...heheh

Enjoy your stay, here!

Spooky,
I can relate to your journey. I've been a USASOC asset since 2001. In 2003, I was in Kosovo watching you launch the push to Baghdad on TV. Interesting that you mention returning as a contractor. I've been offered a position as a Human Terrain Team Leader with the HTS to return to Iraq in the spring. The compensation is great. I just don't like being gone from home.

Murray,
"Climb to Glory!" I was with the 10th Mtn Div in Baghdad. They were consummate professionals who treated me especially well even as an augmentee to their organization. I would serve with them again at the first opportunity.

Grandpa would be very pleased to hear that Smile

It's actually what he told me when I "whittled" out my first wooden "Bowie" knife.
