Hello from Iraq,

I just returned from a deployment with the 34ID in Basrah. Now, I'm convalescing from injuries at the moment at Fort Benning while thinking of our brethren at Fort Hood.

I own a Sig P239 .40 S&W as well as a Fusion 1911 Tact-5 .45ACP. Already, I'm enjoying the discussion on SIGforum and feeling more and more connected with "home." Thanks. I'm grateful to you guys and for your support to all the troops.

In my days in the desert, I had time to reflect. I remember thinking how thankful I was to live in a land where I'm free to develop the defensive skills necessary to protect myself, my family, and my fellow soldiers. Whether in uniform or out, the psychological freedom of self-defense is incredible. Not one day passed in Iraq that I wasn't grateful for my right to own and train in the USA with my firearm to gain confidence in my abilities and my weapon's capabilities. Confidence changes how you think and act. It made me a better protector of freedom.

Thanks for the privilege of participating in this group.

All the best,
LTC R, US Army, CA

Glad you made it back! Will you have to ship out again when you recover?

Welcome HOME Soldier and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for your service to our country and for your personal sacrifice. May your recovery be speedy and complete.

You are among a vast and rapidly growing group of American citizens who are beginning to take back our country from those who would like to see it's downfall.

I was saddened to learn today that the Ft. Hood shooter was from my home town. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of victims.

Thanks again!!

FT, Thanks for the welcome. As an old Lieutenant Colonel, I don't heal as quickly as the young guys. Still, I appreciate the support. We all do.

Reliable,
My parents are from Altoona. My wife and I lived just outside Scranton for a short time. We visit the Philadelphia area during the holidays. We know and like PA.

As far as the Fusion, I love it. I had Bob make 2 1911s: one for my son's 21st birthday as a symbol of his right of passage into manhood if you will, and one for dad as a gift to myself for returning safely from Iraq. My son preferred the 9mm. I went with the .45ACP simply because I learned to shoot in the USMC (1975-1979) with the 45. Fusion/Bob Serva produces the excellent quality firearms. I was giddy with excitement waiting for it. I was even more delighted to take it to the range last week. Wow! It was so smooth, the recoil felt almost as soft as the Beretta 9mm (which isn't really a complimentary comparison). You made an excellent decision to go with Fusion. You get a custom made weapon for an incredibly reasonable price. That's value.

Watchman and SC Mike, Thanks much. Mike, I really like your avatar. How'd you get it? I'd like to insert a unit crest of even a rank insignia.

Kraz,
I appreciate your use of the word "sacrifice." Most of us don't sacrifice our whole life to serve, but all of us sacrifice some of our lives to in the service of our nation. Thanks for saying that. I know our soldiers and our families never tire of hearing that kind of acknowledgment especially those at Fort Hood.

Keep "clingin' in VA." You're not alone!

ABC,
You ROCK! I'll order a 38 inch X 1.5 mahogany belt in the future. They look very nice and would serve well for concealed carry holsters.

Lek,
Thanks. How would you compare your P229 .40 with your P220 .45? I'm looking at a P220 Carry (3.9 inch barrel).
