Well actually I'm not entirely new to reloading, I reloaded .44 mags and .357 in the 80's on an RCBS Green Machine progressive loader. I just purchased a RL 550B from Brian and plan on loading all 9mm. In the past I used a lot of Blue Dot which was great for my magnums. Currently I will be purchasing VV 320, Power Pistol, and some Blue Dot powders. I just need to currently know what is some of the better bullets these days is (115gr/125gr fmj) i.e. Speer, Nosler, Sierra, Hornady? In my magnums it was Speer/Blue Dot combos, these days, and with 9mm, I'm at a loss, I have 3 manuals which can tell me the oal's and powder charge and bullet weights...just not the quality of the bullet. Thanks for any suggestions Smile

I like the Lasercast for lead.

I have tried a lot of bullets over my many years of plinking and hunting.
I can tell you that the zero brand bullets in my handguns for plinking make me look good.
I use hornady round nose for hunting these days in a reduced load.I have used many different ones over the years and they all do the job if you are good with a rifle.

If you are talking pure accuracy, the Hornady XTP is tough to beat.

Thanks guy's for the replies. I posted over at Brian Enos forum also and based on some of their suggestions I ended up purchasing Montana Gold CMJ 115gr to use with either Blue Dot or VV 320. Does anybody know wher I can find load info using these bullets with VV 320 or Blue Dot? All the manuals I have do not list the Montana Gold load info? Thanks Will.

Fred, Thanks for the info, I'll try them out in the next loading cycle Wink

It's just a bullet.
Load by it's weight and total length.
It's not rocket surgery.

45, SC just wanted to see what it was like to shoot rounds that actually had powder in them. He keeps telling me how much he saves reloading, no wonder I think he still has the same pound of powder he started with. Big Grin I think we should paint arrows on his press so he quits running it in reverse.

precision moly or poly coated bullets here:

http://precisionbullets.com/

In which case you might want to use Winchester Super Target powder (WST) to help keep the smoke down.

No, they don't smoke as bad as lead with a wax lube.

Why oh why! Are you using the VhitaVouri powder?

You must have about 10 bucks extra per pound of powder to blow.

If it's 9mm, use Tite Group, if it's .40 or .45 at major power factor use Clays.

WHy not just use WST across the board? Clays is too freaky in 9 or 40 & TG, well, I'll bet more guns have been KBs using TG than any other powder. Just not enough bulk & steep pressure curve.

^^^ That's why I am antsey to recommend using Titegroup in the .40.

I think Clays is okay in the .40 even at minor PF's, I think.

I like it for .45 ACP too.

I do like Titegroup in the 9mm.

I will be cranking out some more 147 grain lead projectiled rounds in a minute.

And then those bullets will be all used up.

(sigh)

On to the 147 grain Berry's plated bullets then.

Which just didn't seem to group as well as the lead 147's and the copper jacketed Remingtion 124 grainers I was using.

(sigh)

I might try pushing the Berry's 147's a little faster this time to see if they group any better.

They did feel like shooting a .22 though. Big Grin

I have used Winchester 231 in .45 ACP .

I have also used Bullseye and Unique in the .45 also.

Eek

Talk about dirty!

Yikes.

I think it was with the old formulation of Unique it looked like I sprinkled myself with pepper once I got done shooting.

I have used the V V powders before in the past.

In fact, I still have a 1 pound can of V V 3n37 and something less than a pound of V V 330

I just looked at the one pound can of V V 3n37. I bought it in November of 2006 for $26 dollars, which in some places could be 12 bucks more than a pound of Titegroup or Clays.

I didn't think the V V powders were all that clean either.

YMMV.

Chills, Since I've been out of the reloading loop since the early eighties, I've been doing some reading on different powders to use for 9mm. I've read on the Brian Enos forum, many preferred the VV powders because they were a good powder and ran pretty clean. Since in the past I've only used Blue Dot for my .44 and .357 mag loads, I like the powder and it was fairly clean and got the mags where I needed them. I don't mind paying a little more at this point in time as I'm in a position to do so. So, basically I'm in an experimental stage and I'm going to find a load I'm happy using, though it may take a tweak here and there. I've already accumulated a list of other powders to use also, to include Power Pistol and WSF, Solo 1000 and Clays! Thanks for your post's Smile

You are welcome.

It's just me, personally, my opinion. I don't even bother buying stuff in 1 pound jugs any more.

Four pounders are the min, and I always try to buy an 8 pound keg.

Let's say a one pound can of V V whatever is 26 dollars and a 1 pound (or 14 ounce) can of Clays is 14 dollars.

If you bought 3 cans of the VV powder, you could almost have 6 pounds of the Clays.

Yeah, I am cheap like that. Razz

But, with gas at 4 bucks a gallon I guess I ought to be.

Mad

I don't have much experience with 9mm, but in .45acp Montana Gold is a great jacketed bullet. I like Laser Cast for lead bullets. Have also tried and liked Precision Bullets.

I ended up purchasing 1k of Montana Gold 115gr CMJ's I looked for 124gr Zero's and everybody is out of them. I can get more Montana Golds in 124gr but I'd personally like to get a different colored jacket so there cannot be a mistake between the 115's and the 124's. The 1k of the 115's will keep me busy for ahwile, so I can wait for the Zero's to be available Wink Thanks for the suggestions!
