You're going to feel
a little pressure...

Hey all-

I have a question about swapping bullets on loaded ammunition.

I have on hand some M80 ball 147 gr with the bi-metal jacket that attracts a magnet. I also have some Sierra Match Game King 150 gr soft point hunting bullets. With them being in the same general weight range, would it be possible (advisable?) to pull the military projectiles, dump the powder back in, and seat the SMK bullet? Is it that simple or am I missing something important and likely to blow up an expensive gun?

I hear "There are no stupid questions". I guess we will see Wink

If they're soft point hunting bullets, are you sure you don't mean Sierra Game King?

I used quite a bit "Portuguese Match" ammo in my M1As for 200 yard service rifle events: Pull the 147 grain bullet and seat a 155 grain Sierra Palma over the original powder charge. Cases were discarded as they were Berdan primed. I wasn't the only one doing it.

Game King, yes.
I'm glad to know it's not out of the question.
Any special precautions?

Or “Mexican match” was the term I always heard:

After pulling the bullet and neck sizing die with the decapper removed and the neck resized. This was a process brought to us from members of the AMTU.”

It can be done, kinetic hammer will wear you out though with mil spec. Stuff has sealant in bullet.mil crimp could give you fits also.
You should also do neck size on those cases.
If you plan to use same powder you will have to know grains charged with to load back.

I think he's planning on a one for one deal. Pull the bullet and replace it with no loss of powder.

Yes, this would be a straight, individual swap, not a mass pulling with a pile of bullets and a bucket of powder, at the end. One out, one in.
