These will be full power loads with jacketed 147 gr. bullets out of a 3.5" barrel. All other things being equal I'd prefer minimal flash for shooting in low light. I've started my 9mm loading career with the W231 that's worked well for me in .45, but if there's something better out there I'd like to hear about it.

For IDPA, I use Titegroup and Clays - because the guys I shoot with had load data already worked up and it just let me copy the loads.

I think I have load data somewhere for titegroup with a 147gr FMJ bullet. I have not loaded 147 gr jacketed bullets but have loaded a lot of 147gr plated bullets. Let me know if you want me to look for the load data.

Thanks, but I don't mind working the loads up; I'm mainly interested in getting an idea of what powder most 9mm shooters prefer.

I use AA#7 for my regular loads, and Titegroup for my subsonic loads to use in my suppressed pistol. The AA#7 is painful to shoot with the can on the gun, like a face full of needles. Titegroup eliminates this blowback.

I've tried these in 9mm:

W231
Bullseye
AA #7
PowerPistol

If i had to choose only one, I would pick W231 although my Bullseye load is pretty damn accurate.

Shooting 125gr lead and 124gr Montana Gold bullets.

I also started with W231, and like it a lot.
I load .38Spl, .40, and 9mm with it. Works real good for me, meters very well.

If I had to only pick one it would be Power Pistol, accuracy, power and lower pressures plus I can see a double charge if it occurs.

I shoot USPSA and FakeDPA so the flash/sound/recoil from PP...I find it more of a detriment and my W231/Bullseye/AA#7 loads are just as accurate.

Pressure is not an issue since I don't load near max and double charges are picked up by my RCBS Lock-Out die

I use Unique for nearly everything. I'd brush my teeth with it if it tasted better.

I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

My favorite one is WW231 for 115gr or lighter.

Is W231 a flake or ball powder?

WW231 is a ball powder. If you look at it closely it looks like a mix of ball and very small flakes.

For full power loads, stay away from powders faster than W231. Even then, yo uhave to push it hard to make factory vel. Medium burners like Unique, WSF & HS6 will give factory vel. w/o going into +P pressures. NO Clays or TG or BE, etc especially w/ heavy bullets.

I use AA #5 for 9 mm and all of my non-magnum handgun loads. Similar burn rate as Unique. The only problem now is to find it on shelves.

I like the W231.
I tried and also liked WST but have stopped using for lack of published data.
