Got some nickel casings from another member and they are stamped F C .40 S&W. I have just seen some post online where these casings were too thin in some isntances.

ANyone else had any luck/bad luck with them?

I have an e-mail into federal to try and deny or confirm but no reply yet.

Greetings,

The FC brass was not designed to be reloaded. We now produce brass for
reloading purposes labeled Federal on the head stamp.

Thank you,
Federal Cartridge

Response from Federal. Guess I'll throw it all away, but my question first is, is most other factory loaded ammunition actually designed for reloads?

If the primer is std, there is no reason why you can not reload them. They may have swedge the primer pockets but that is easy to correct.

I have some in my misc bag that I reload. The resizing is a little harder other than that it shoots. The brass may be harder and not take very many cycles.

Blue,

I've primed 5-10 of them, they seem to prime jsut fine, didn't actually measure the depth past flush but it seems to be a good .001 - .003 below flush.

I'll try a couple and maybe limit it to 3 light loads or something.

I guess I better throw out half of my 9mm brass....

I wonder if that's just a way for them to get you to either buy their federal commercial brass or to buy their ammo.

Earlier this year I purchased a bunch of once fired brass and when it came most of it had FC 08 on the headstamp. FWIW - When I contacted Federal they said, ".40 brass head stamped FC 08 is perfectly safe to shoot and reload."

I think that is a CYA from Federal. If they were truly not designed for reloading, much like aluminum cases, then they should Berdan prime them. I have found Federal brass to be lacking in durability, even match brass, in just about any caliber, pistol or rifle that I have tried. It will reload, but not many times before becomig unsafe. Their brass is soft for what ever reason, I imagine ease of manuf. I would reload it, just stay off max. loads & watch for enlarged primer pockets. If the primer slides in too easily, it means the case is done & should be tossed. I had a Federal 45acp case lose the primer on firing last weekend. I have no idea how many times it had been loaded, 2-3, but I have loaded other brands so many times the headstamp can barely be read & the pockets are still tight.

I had trouble with bullet setback using JHP bullets and FC brass but it works great with cast lead bullets.
