Ive got some 140 gr .357 & .358 dia. lead swc bullets that I belive were originally for 38 super...any reason I cant load them for 9mm?

Anyone have a recipe for them using TG or 231?

I'm not an expert but I wouldn't load them. Biggest I'd go for 9mm is .356 cast, .355 FMJ.

The diameter is too large - stick with the 9mm. In fact most newer 38 supers are sized for .355 (9mm).

There's no issue with going +.001" oversize with a jacketed bullet. Wil Schueman actually recommends going oversize to cut down on gas blow by.

I wouldn't worry about going +.001 or +.002" in lead. I don't know if I would go .003" however.

Current Guns:
-Suppressed M&P 9 for the nightstand
-Brazos Custom STI 5" 2011 in 9mm for Limited Minor & Plinking
-Brazos Custom STI 5" 2011 in .40 S&W for Limited
-Brazos Custom STI 4.5" 2011 Pro SX for Open

As I recall.... .356 is nominal for .38 Super and .357 to .358 is for .38 Spl/.357 Magnum.

.355 is nominal for 9mm

There are no issues going .001 or even .002 "over" but would make me nervous to go .003 or more over.

As these are lead (not jacketed) suspect you will be "OK" as long as you use a bronze brush frequently and inspect carefully for lead in the barrel.

Of course depends on your 9mm barrel...some will slug out as .356 so no worries going .358 there.

There have been articles showing that ,001 over the barrel is not a problem, and may contribute to accuracy as less gas blow by.....

The only requirement is that the loaded round chamber freely. If the case neck can expand to release the bullet, a little oversize will not matter. Use load data for 147 grain.

I let the bore and chamber dictate proper diameter. For me, I use .357" and .358" cast lead routinely in my 9mm pistols. Even .357" jacketed could be perfectly OK if you slug your bore, and my only concern would be profile with regard to feeding.

9mm bores vary widely, and what works for one may not work for another. It's a lot like 7.62 x 54R, 303 Brit, etc.
