Hey Guys... I decided to get the kit I posted about:

http://www.thegunsource.com/item/74229_LEE_90030_BREECH...HALLENGER%20KIT.aspx

Its gonna suck loading a lot with a single press from what I understand but oh well... better then paying retail prices.

Anyway what's a good place to buy reloading components? Also, can anyone recomend brands for anything - bullets, cases, primers, powders?

thanks!

buying primers and powder via online or over the phone is gonna suck because I am pretty sure that they stick it to you with HAZMAT fee's to get it deliverd to your door.

Eek

As far as cases go, you should be buying those off an indoor range, I suppose.

slight thread drift ahead

You might be able to buy a 5 gallon bucket full of mixed brass and then use this:

http://www.shellsorter.com/

And then what you don't need or don't use, you can turn around and sell to other reloaders in your area.

In time, you could make your shellshorter pay for itself...

anywhoo....

My recommendation for a cheap bullet would be the moly coated ones from Precision here:

http://precisionbullets.com/

But they do smoke a little so you're gonna have to use Winchester Super Target (WST) powder to help keep the smoke down.

As far as a copper bullet goes, I would suggest tracking down the PRVI bullets:

http://www.prvipartizan.com/bullets.php

NOPE! I haven't shot these myself, but they are cheap.

I am a member of a local gun club/range where the membership fee is only $35 a year. They have their own FFL and a dealer's account through Graf's so I can get things wholesale.

The PRVI bullets, say like in .40 cal for the 180 grainers are 80 bucks a thousand.

The Berry's I used to shoot are up around 140 bucks a thousand.

Eek

I'll agree with Chills; don't buy powder and primers online if you can help it. The gun shows around here always have at least one table set up for reloaders, though, I don't like to pay the $10 entrance fee unless I'm going for something else as well. Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shop also carry powder and primers, so I'll get my supplies from them if I'm not headed to a gun show.

As far as other components go, Midway is hard to beat.

one of the best places to buy is grafs. And i suggest getting your curio and relic license ($30 for 3 years) and this will give you dealer discounts at grafs and many other sights.

the license is very easy to get. I got mine in less than a month

as for bullets i shoot lead, and i get them from two alpha bullets.

And powder i use win 231 (for 45acp)

try and find powder and primers at gunshows, and buy in bulk! thats the only way to save money

as for what primers i use... win wlp large pistol or cci large pistol primers, which ever i can find cheapest

at grafs (dealer) i can get 5k for the cci primers for $117 shipped

whereas without the dealer discount it is $133 shipped

If you were to buy one pound of powder the hazmat fee will double your order price, but if you purchase enough powder and primers the hazmat fee is trivial. Last fall a buddy of mine and myself split an order. Combined we purchased 20 lbs of powder and 30,000 primers. The order was roughly $2000. At that point what's an extra $20?

As for online component suppliers.

Powder Valley is the excellent.

Graf & Sons are also pretty good.

You may want to check with your local law enforcement about bulk powder and primer storage - most municipalities regulate the number of primers that can be stored in a residence (generally 10K or less) and some regulate how they need to be stored (1" thick wood enclosure for primers, one weak wall for powders, etc).

I would not call LEA, they do not regulate anyway. Your local fire dept. has regulations about proper powder storage.

Fred's right, stop by your local Fire Dept. They can tell you what the law says. You can also call the BATF. If you look around on the BATF website you can find it. Although thier website is kinda tough to navigate and find what you want. IIRC though you can keep up to 50# in a single family residence before you have to get a powder magazine seperately, and there's ALOT of other things you have to do to build a powder magazine and they are subject to approval and yearly surprise inspection.

My dad and I were going to go into business selling Black Powder here, since not many people deal with it around here anymore. But we did some figuring and it would cast WAYYYY too much to get started, we'd have to buy in huge amounts to make any money..so we dumped that idea.
