Looking for the best holsters to carry the weight of the 229r dak in Texas Heat.
Getting a 229R and curious how others carry CCW.
I have carried for years, 1911s and Glocks. I have VMIIs for them but waiting a long time for one for a 229R.
What is available that works.

You might try Craig and Audrey at Lightning Arms Sports. Lightning Arms Sports

Both are wonderful folks and Craig actually contacted me through a non-descript forum post that they had received VMII's for 229R's. Was a while back but it might be worth a try. They've done right by me and a lot of other forum members.

I recommend the MTAC. I use them for my 229 and SP2022.

If you're still in the military, they offer a 10% (I believe) military discount. Not much, but it's like getting free S&H. They may also offer LE discounts, but I never asked.

AWMP, I carry my 229R in a Galco Skyops IWB (everyday of this 100+ degree summer!). It's a small package without an entire square foot of leather pressed up against your body and carries quite well. I can tuck it, but most often don't. There is a $10 replacement Y clip that will allow for belts up to 1 1/4". The one supplies is primarily for a dress belt 1".

it also doubles as my P6 holster. FYI.

Looking at VMII, I have and have had several in the past, known holster to me. Does it support the weight good of the Sig 229R? The 229R is the thickest pistol I will be trying to CCW, work well or will I be looking for my 1911 or Glock in an hour?

I have heard a lot of good things about the MTAC but not sure if I want that much leather against me (point taken), currently deployed but Texas summers are smokers.

The Galco Skyops IWB, I don't know anything about this holster. I looked it up and for the weight of the 229R I know how it would work out. Looks like a great tuckable holster for a small 1911 or a thin pistol. How does it support the weight of a big gun?

+1 for the MTAC.

These days though I find myself carrying my PM9 more often than not in the South Louisiana summer heat (and humidity).

I decided to go with TT Gunleather. I called Lightning Arms Sports and I could not see paying over $150.00 for a VMII. I have heard good things about TT Gunleather so I thought I would give them a try.
